Digital camera reviews of Next Generation Remote Control Extender

Digital camera Review: AWESOME!
Summary: 5 Stars

This product works perfectly for me. I watch the same cable that plays in the living room on my bedroom TV and this product allows me to control the box in the living room with the remote in my bedroom. Love it!

Digital camera Review: AWESOME! It really is as good as it sounds
Summary: 5 Stars

This took me about 5 or 10 minutes to attach and set up and solved a silly problem of having to go into the closet to made DVD selections. I can press "play" from the kitchen, the living room, anywhere! (My 3-yr old likes to watch not only the same Blues Clues DVD over & over, but the same "Paper Hats" episode over and over).

The extender comes with an extra rechargable battery that recharges in the receiver base unit so you never go without (only the remaining regular batteries will need to be replaced as normal). Mine is inside a closet, inside a cabinet with the doors closed. I can go anywhere in my 2100 sf house and restart Blues Clues. I am ordering more of these today so I can keep the doors to my living room entertainment cabinet closed. No more doors hanging open and looking at all the components stacked up. Yay!

I normally don't review items, but I was so impressed by this little thing that I felt compelled. I'm a DishNetwork customer who uses a 2 room DVR. Our house isn't huge, but its quite a way from our bedroom to the living room where the actual DVR sits. We've been fighting with our 2nd room RF remote from Dish for years trying to get it to work consistently. We're constantly adjusting the antenna, replacing batteries, and trying any and every remote control position to try to get the signal to the DVR. While looking for a solution to another problem, I ran across the Next Generation remote extender so I thought I'd give it a try. Wow! It worked perfectly right out of the box. We placed the emitter in our entertainment cabinet in the living room, placed the battery transmitter in a universal remote in the bedroom, programmed the remote with the IR codes, and voila, we were controlling the living room DVR. It works flawlessly every time.

If I could rate this with 6 stars, I would. I'm ordering another unit so I can control the upstairs DVR from my downstairs office. Now my only question is whether or not a second unit will interfere with the first. I guess I'll soon find out. :)

Digital camera Review: Absolutely Awesome

I feel like I went through all the other types of extenders prior to getting this one and after having it for a few months I still love it. Works with all my destination equipment including a Sony stereo, various DVD players and most importantly the Dish Network box. The Dish box was twitchy at best with the other extenders including those designed specifically for the those boxes. Frequently they'd pick up interference causing them to be non functional. Not so with this extender. It just works..all the time. On the sending side, I am using it with a Sony RM-VL610 Universal remote which is another product I'd recommend. This extender is well worth the extra cost over the other ones.

Digital camera Review: Absolutely amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

This remote extender is absolutely great.
Since the radio emitter goes inside the remote control itself, it occupies no space. Plus, it work from any room inside the house.
Tried it with DirecTV's white remote and several others and it works perfectly .

Pros: Tiny; no cabling; low cost; no aiming with the remote at an IR receptor; works from any room; IR emitter seems to be omni directional, at least at a short range.

Cons: Power supply is only for 120VAC (not suited for those of us abroad the US); Supplied 2/3 size AAA batteries seem to be of poor quality. I'd be able to tell some time from now.

Overall: great product.

Addendum: After a couple of years the rechargeable batteries still hold, even though they look cheap.

Added 18/MAY/2010:
Beware of the slightly recesed positive terminal in the emitter. If the battery contact in the remote control is not reliable enough (especially those consisting of a curled spring like wire) the emitter can get short circuited. If so, the rechargeable battery might get hot. In my case the battery got hot and apparently got soldered to the emitter. Both battery and emitter got ruined.

Anyway this product is so great that I'm ordering a new unit.
