I spent a lot more money on a Universal Remote Control brand remote and extender that does not work nearly as well as this little gem. As far as ease of use goes, you just plug in the IR repeated and replace one of your batteries in your current remote.
Apparently the thing picks up the stray electrical signals that trigger the IR on a regular remote control and broadcast them to the remote unit which amplifies them and sends them to the IR emitter on the base unit. Very clever.
One minor point, I wish battery life was a bit longer, but that is a minor point.

Worked first time right out of the box and a week and a half later I'm still using the 1st battery as it came to me. The spare battery is in the base unit's charger. I'm using this "Next Generation Remote Control Extender" on my Verizon FIOS TV service's Motorola STB. Great product.Digital camera Review: Amazing little device!

I was very skeptical of this product. Got the first one, plugged the little battery/radio adapter in and got ready to laugh. Worked perfectly! I am still amazed at this little device with how simple it is to use and how great it works.
I put one into a friends house and since then more friends have bought them. Used one in a Harmony remote and now have the whole system hidden away and running off the one remote. I got the triple eye emitter to go with it. Worth the cost if you have multiple components in a small space.
