I had a new tuner I had setup to drive the speakers on my hot tub but the remote was IR and didn't reach or have clear line of sight to the tuner from the tub. This is much cooler than you think! I mean, think about it. Somehow a battery is reading what you're remote is doing! Whaaaaa? I read a review that explains it.
Apparently every IR remote actually produces some amount of RF. The battery pickup/transmitter is able to read that signal and translate it. That's amazing!
I'm using it on a DirecTV Tivo DVR. It's wonderful to be able to use it with the cabinet door closed, no receiver visible and nothing on the remote. Amazing!!

I never thought that this item will be so amazing. My major concern was the reception and lenght of the radio because I want it to use it in the kitchen were my wi-fi doesnt work. For my surprise, this divice works perfect in every corner of the kitchen (100 mts away aprox - 3 to 4 walls). One of my best orders in amazon so far.Digital camera Review: Amazing...simply amazing

Based upon the reviews I read here (and elsewhere) I decided to buy this little guy and give it a whirl. I am trying to control my DirecTV satellite receiver located in another room through a wall, some shelves, and whatever electronics are on the same shelf as the receiver (which include a VCR and the satellite receiver itself). I did not use the included "remote eye".
After charging the battery (per the instructions), I inserted it into the transmtter shell, slid that into the AA adapter, and replaced one of the two batteries in the remote control with this...thing.
It works exactly as advertised. Now I may control the receiver in the "main room" (connected via a splitter to the TV in the bedroom) perfectly while -in- the bedroom. I couldn't ask for anything more from a reasonably priced product.
