Digital camera reviews of Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom Nikkor Lens

Digital camera Review: 18-200mm
Summary: 5 Stars

Good all around lens. This replaces all my other lenses except Nikkor 12-24 which is the most usefull lens I own.

I don't know anything about this product! I bought it for a friend. Now you have my e-mail address and you abuse it real bad. I hope I don't use Amazon again. My trash can is full of Amazon junk!

Digital camera Review: A Dream Lens
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this lens for over a year now and it seldom comes off of my camera. I have a number of other lenses but this one covers a wide range of focal lengths while also creating sharp images. I periodically need to take low-light shots and for this vibration reduction works well. Yes, it's a bit heavy but weighs less than the combined weight of the lenses it replaces in my camera bag. Also, because it covers such a range of focal lengths you won't be swapping it out very often and that means fewer opportunities for dust to enter and collect on your camera's sensor. Nikon has really outdone itself with this one.

Digital camera Review: A Nikkor lens that is everything it's cracked up to be!
Summary: 5 Stars

This vendor got the lens to me just in time for my trip to Argentina. Despite my lack of experience using the lens with my D-200, I got some fantastic photos. I was able to take the one lens and leave the wide-angle and 50mm at home, just as advertised. There is some lens creep, and some tight spaces are still better opened up closer to 12mm, so other lenses are far from becoming obsolete, but if you would rather carry just one, this is your baby. Its wide range (18-200mm) just makes life that much easier, or makes photos possible that you might not otherwise have bothered with... ducks on a fairly distant lake shore in freezing weather, for example!
Highly recommend lens, vendor, and Amazon for ease of purchase.

Digital camera Review: A Walk Around Town Lens
Summary: 4 Stars

So here's the deal with the lens. An awesome lens for those who don't do critical work and want to minimize the amount of lenses they need to carry. Personally, after having shot with this, the aperture, vignetting, and noticeable distortion are a little too much for critical work and prints. This is definately one of those lenses that i would use when i go somewhere that i can't or don't want to bring alot of lenses and gear and i'm not shoting anything critical, let me mention though that this is a perfect lens for the photoblogger. This with my D200 is a nice match but like i said. For critical work stick with the finer zooms or even primes. I use a Tokina 12-24 f/4 which is reviewed BETTER than the Nikon equivalent and use a nikon 35-70 f/2.8 zoom paired with a 70-200 at the long end. That is my setup for serious shooting. For a day in the park or a stroll down the street, the 18-200 is definately nice though. THe distortion that is present is easy to correct in photoshop unlike some other zooms that leave terrible unfixable distortion, and the vignetting is also no problem for photoshop or any of the other decent photo editing apps. overall i would give this lens a 4-5 because of it's versatility, easy correction of distortion and vignetting, and the VR capabilities which work nicely.
