Digital camera reviews of Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

Digital camera Review: A must have lens.
Summary: 5 Stars

A fast prime lens is a must have in any camera bag. It is nice to have in low light situations where you can't/don't want to use a flash. Sharpness is satisfactory wide open but at f4 and above I find it gets very sharp.

If you are willing to spend more money you may want to look into the Nikon 35mm or Sigma 30mm f1.4 especially if you are using a DX camera body. The 30mm will get you closer to what a 50mm lens would be on a FX body.

It's also a good learning tool, there is nothing like a prime lens to teach you how to frame an image.

All in all a perfect match for my D90. With the high ISO capability of the D90 I'm able to stop the lens down to around f4 even in low light and get great shots. The ability to open the lens up even more when needed is just icing on the cake.

Digital camera Review: A must have!
Summary: 5 Stars

I primarily shoot a Nikon D200, and up until a couple days ago, only carried three lenses with me. They are the 12-24mm dx, the nikkor 80-200mm f2.8, and the 55mm micro (manual focus). I felt the need to get something in the "middle range" for street photography, but have previously returned every mid-range zoom I've ever bought. This lens was the answer! The lens is fast, autofocus is lightning quick, it's cheap, and it's small and light. Images are sharper than any lens I've previously shot, the bokeh (out of focus backround) when shot wide-open is as good as I've seen, and lens flare is non-existent. That's right, and I've shot directly into halogen, floresent and the sun! For those who experience flare with this lens, I recommend taking off your useless UV filter. The front lens element is receded far enough that it is not at risk for bumps, smudges and cracks.

Digital camera Review: A must have!
Summary: 5 Stars

Do you have just the lens on your NIKON that came in the kit? Do all your photos look and feel like they were taken with a point and shoot? You need a faster(larger aperture) lens. This little gem will let you get the photos that you like that have a short depth of field and let you shoot in lower light situations. Under $200 to get the photos you have always wanted.

Digital camera Review: A must have.

Just buy it. It's cheap and it is wonderful. Super fast lens, quick focus on my D80. A steal at around $100.

Digital camera Review: A must-have
Summary: 5 Stars

Every photographer should have a nifty-fifty in their bag.

This lens is a staple - sharp, light, fast. Use the zoom given to you by nature (your feet) and spend some time with this incredible piece of glass.

Great for portraits, outdoors, low-light shots. At under $150, you can't afford to be without this outstanding all-around lens.
