Digital camera Review: I lack the linear polarizer

I bought and just made some tests on the filter but without actually employing it in the field. First impression was that its effects are much much weaker then those of a linear polarizer like the one I had from Cokin.
Surely there must be some reasons why it was not possible to devise a meter compatible with linear polarization, but it gives a strange feeling to see something degrading with the progress of technology.
Summary of Nikon 62mm Wide Circular Polarizer II Filter
Light rays which are reflected become polarized, and polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun. Filter factor is between 2.3 and 2.8 (approx. +1.3 stops). Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems). The "II" polarizing filters are now made especially thin, and can also be used with wide-angle lenses. They do not have front threads. And unlike with the original polarizing filters, most deidcated bayonet hoods can be used.Accessories
