Digital camera reviews of Nikon Coolpix L20 10MP Digital Camera with 3.6 Optical Zoom and 3 inch LCD, (Deep Red)

Digital camera Review: A Convenient & efficient piece of equipment
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband, a purblic works and construction inspector, is not electronically or photographically efficient and needs to be able to take and reproduce good visual accompaniment for his written inspection reports. He was having little success in the field with the camera he had and asked me to choose a new one for him. After reading comparisons in various publications I chose this one as seeming to be the best quality with the size he needed for convenience walking large area projects. He has had no problem operating the camera, the photos have been consistently clear and well focused (just using the default settings) and those needing to use these pictures for documentation have been highly satisfied. Amazing results for a "little" easy shot camera.

Digital camera Review: A Decent Camera BUT! a poor LCD Sreen
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this camera for my son,

The camera looks very nice, with a rich dark red color, almost like a burgundy color.

It takes decent pictures, and nice videos which you can playback on the camera and hear the sound which is a plus.

But the LCD screen is horrible it makes everything look awful.

When composing a picture, everything on the screen looks yellowish and grainy it just looks plain ugly (though when you preview the pic's it looks kinda decent).

How can such a nice looking decent camera have such a poor LCD screen. I also fiddled with the white balance but that didnt help.

The camera is ok but I am returning it, because of the poor lcd screen.

We've tried other cameras like the kodak which had a big beautiful bright screen but the on cam video playback has no audio.

In all fairness the Nikon L20 does take decent pictures and videos which makes it a hard choice to return it. But I just can't accept the poor LCD screen, its not impressive at all.

Digital camera Review: A Jewel of a Camera
Summary: 5 Stars

Contrary to the first commentor (I believe he had a defective product from the onset) I love my new L20. A jewel-like body containing every important feature one needs to take excellent pictures. And what a beautiful video capability that camera has! Very smooth, can zoom in during shooting and has long recording capability. Everything works just as advertised. The pictures are brilliant with correct balance of color intensity vs. sharpness and contrast. The Easy Auto feature is powerful and works every time to compose the right scene correctly. I love this camera - highly recommended especially at the price range it's being sold. I think it's underpriced.

Digital camera Review: A great camera for most pocket applications.
Summary: 5 Stars

Got this camera on sale at Hhgregg for only $80. The features and size exceeded requirements for what I was looking for to replace my old (fading yellow flash) Fugi 4mp 3X zoom for a quality pocket camera using AA batteries. I have a 10X zoom kodak for vacation "great pictures and videos and long life battery" but it's too bulky to take on social occasions. And I don't own a camera cell phone. Wasn't thrilled to see the L20 Coolpix was made in China but what isn't anymore? The Nikon has a few "have to learn" features to finally get it right and isn't really intuitive for a 63 year old who is way behind on the electronic learning curve. Once I learned that in "easy auto mode" one has to push the shutter button 1/2 way (like my old camera)to lock in the pix before taking it all was well. Also once one plays with the multitude of advanced features and editing capability it becomes somewhat amazing using the enlarged screen. It would be nice if there was a viewer but even in the bright FL sun I can still make out the objects I'm trying to photo. I had one issue where I thought the batteries went dead without the logo warning and replaced them only to have it happen again so was ready to return L20 to store. Upon closer inspection the battery/memory door is tricky (must use slight force down and sideways) to get closed properly and can otherwise be ajar making it lose power without any warning while off. Once that problem was solved I have become very attached to this little gem. The ruby red color grows on you too. Like I said a little gem.

Digital camera Review: A portable little camera, but with good quality
Summary: 4 Stars

I read the reviews here and I liked most of them. The major thing wrong with the camera that I haven't quite mastered yet is the flash. I have to put it on flash mode for the pics to come out good. Otherwise the picture qualility is poor, with fuzzy or color problems. I like that it is so small, it took alittle while to figure out how the batteries go into the camera, but like most it doesn't take 4 AA's its only 2 AA's. I would recommend this camera for someone that wants a good starter camera. It has a huge screen that you can see and it does offer the blink and smile mode.
