Digital camera Review: A Bit Disappointed

I purchased the Coolpix in order to have a good digital camera for my parents' 50th anniversary celebration. When we used it, many of the pictures looked fine on the camera's viewing screen, but were fuzzy and blurred when viewed later on the computer screen. I understand that resolution will be better the smaller the image is, but the pictures were not lacking in resolution- they were just plain blurred- like the photographer moved. This should have shown up better on the camera's screen so the photographer would know to take another shot. In addition, I was under the impression that the camera had a stabilization feature that would reduce the liklihood of blurred shots due to camera movement, but perhaps I misunderstood that feature. A number of the pictures had questionable color quality. Reds looked like hot pink, and it was not possible to properly correct the red color without affecting other aspects of the photos, such as skin tones.
In order to be fair, it is not the top of the line model, and maybe my expectations were too high for the model I purchased. It is possible that some of the problem lies with the operator and not the camera. I hope that photo quality improves as I gain more experience with it. I am not giving up on it yet!
On the positive side, it is a nice, compact, lightweight camera, yet it appears to be well-made and durable. The controls are simple to understand and easy to use. The screen is a nice size.
