I bought this camera to replace one I had because my older fujifilm took quite a lot of abuse. It is overall a very nice camera and has some great features like face recognition, photo grid, blink warning, but maybe it's just me, it takes some photos a little too clear. I did not realize that my freckles were so prominant. That is not my only complaint about the camera though. I love the fact that the battery is rechargeable but it seems to not last very long. Overall it is a very nice camera but I believe it is more suited for landscape and photography rather than portraits. Also, pictures have a blue hue to them making them seem sort of sad.Digital camera Review: Cheap construction

I have been a Nikon owner and user for many years. I purchased the S550 as an easy to carry option to my SLR. It did satisfy my need for a small portable digital camera until the small "lip" on the battery closure door broke off. Now the battery door has to be taped shut. To send the thing back to Nikon for repair cost $100.00, yet the same flimsy door would be used for the repair. This door is plastic and the little closure lip is about .020 inch thick. It can not withstand the spring tension invoked by the battery spring. I would not recommend the camera for this reason.Digital camera Review: Compact, Clean Shot, Powerhouse, Ashton would be PROUD!

This camera just arrived and I took some great shots of my neighbors cat on a hot summer day in July here on the island. Salmon (the cat) was walking across the lawn and did not see me, so I wanted to test out the features a.k.a. the response time, the zoom, vibration reduction, clear visibility 5x Zoom, and I felt as if I were on a safari. Every shot was incredibly clear and still. Armed with 10 mega pixels, a camera this compact with so many cool features, and very simple to use, not complex at all, wins all five stars!

I purchased this camera to replace an older model Nikon coolpix camera. Its features and performance are comparable or better. the only drawback [which some see as an improvement] is the size. This model is barely larger than a pack of cards. that makes it convenient to carry but a bit more difficult to use when taking photos using the zoom feature. A camera with a bit more heft is better for holding steady when taking such shots. If you are a picture taker that likes to customize shots more often than the average point & shoot tourist, a larger model may be more to your liking.
Nevertheless, the camera performs very well and the variety of features available through a relatively easy to use menu format is great. Storage media available for the camera make use of the 10MP option convenient. processing time for photos, even at the 10MP setting, has not seemed long or inconvenient.
