Digital camera Review: Coolpix S550, Cool Camera!
Summary: 5 Stars

Just got the Nikon Coolpix S550 (cool blue color) to replace my daughter's broken (lens won't retract) 7mp Pentax Optio. It's a very good price point for a 10mp camera. Startup time is much shorter than most subcompact point and shoot cameras. It also appears to have a faster write time to the SD card (although that would also depend upon your SD card). The Nikkor lens also seems to be a big improvement, as does the 5x zoom. It takes an extra step to get to the 15 presets, but unless you are a seasoned photographer, you'll want to use the presets. They cover most situations, including "museum" and "fireworks" settings. The "smile" and "blink" features are cool, but I wish Nikon would get away from using the software to reduce shake. It would be better if they used an electro-mechanical solution like Canon or Pentax.

The image quality is quite good, with excellent color saturation and accuracy of colors. The Macro setting gets you to within 10cm, which is not great, but still about the same as other point and shoot cameras. Video quality is good, but, as with all of these types of cameras, the mic picks up too much ambient noise to really be effective. Of course, if your seriously into video, you wouldn't be using a point and shoot camera to capture video. Overall, a very good pocket camera. My daughter LOVES it!!

Digital camera Review: Decent for a point-and-shoot
Summary: 2 Stars

I needed a new camera to replace my failing 5 year old DSLR camera. I choose the nikon brand over others because of some choices that top end photographers have been making lately. I have to admit, that I wish I would have made a better decision. The photos from this camera seem to have unusually high noise. I probably would have rated higher, but I am extremely disappointed that this camera does not use a standard USB connection. Also, why can you not charge the battery via USB? These days, "Features" like this should be an automatic thing.

Digital camera Review: Disappointed-buyer beware!!!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I just purchased the Nikon Coolpix S550 today. I was excited reading several reviews and listening to the salesperson rave about this product. I currently shoot with a Nikon D80 and my spare is a D40. These are amazing cameras in the DSLR category. I figured I should buy a Nikon point-and-shoot to bring along when I am at Disneyland or other places a full size DSLR would not be so convenient. I was frustrated right off the bat when I was taking sample shots of my child. The time it took to take a single photo seemed to take 5 seconds. I made all the in-camera adjustments and it seemed to get worse. The quality was simply horrible no matter what lighting I used and no matter which ISO setting I set. The VR feature was nonexistent when activated. I bought this setting my expectations low compared to the DSLR. But these photos should have some decent quality to them. It had none. Sorry Nikon, this one didn't cut it. Not sure what I will buy to replace this one

Digital camera Review: Disappointing for a Nikon
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this to accommodate my larger camera for the size and convenience when you don't want to lug around a large camera bag. The picture quality is quite poor for a Nikon - I expected more. I ended up returning this and buying a similar sized Canon - it is much better.

Digital camera Review: Distorted pictures
Summary: 1 Stars

I recently bought this camera for a special trip to New York and was very disappointed with it. It is small, fast and convenient which are big pluses. However, almost all of my pictures that had any straight lines like buildings were all distorted no matter what zoom I used or whether the straight lines were on the sides or closer to the center of the picture. This essentially makes the camera useless hence the 1 star rating. Every straight line was bowed and thus does not look natural.
