I had a Canon for 5 years and was very happy with it so I was hesitant to try a new brand; however, being an optometrist I know Nikon are great optical lenses so I decided to go with this camera. Its very user friendly and the pictures turn out great! The Nikon Coolpix S550 is a great camera that is simple to control. The manual that it comes with is very simple to understand. This camera, like every other one, can seem difficult to navigate, however, If you take five minutes to read the manual, then you will understand how to use the camera with no problems. I love that you can easily set it to take pictures in almost any environment, such as, museum, beach, sky, or at a fire work show. It can take very clear pictures and has great image stabilization. The videos are of great quality and the audio with the videos is even better. The S550 can also zoom very far without to much blurring of the image. In addition to all this, the camera feel extremely sturdy, it doesn't feel like cheap plastic that will break if you drop it (and I have dropped it several times and it has not even scratched). This camera is also very fast. It turns on very quickly and can take pictures quickly. That is great for anyone who needs to take pictures of things that may move, like animals. So, if you are looking for a small, light, and durable camera that can take great pictures and videos, you need to look no further than the Nikon S550.Digital camera Review: Great Camera!

I've always been a fan of Nikon, actually their the only brand camera I'll buy. I owned a lower grade coolpix camera that had a larger screen and wifi to send my pics to my computer if need be. I then replaced it with this one and realized I didn't need those bells and whistles. This camera definitely gets the job done, never had a problem with it or my last one. I had this camera for slightly over a month and have been satisfied based on its class and compact size. The zoom lens is great, but I feel as though some reviewers may have used the zoom when not necessary and with a shaky hand, created some blurry photos. Compact cameras with weak flashes never perform well indoors, that's a known fact, and I did not expect DSLR quality with this little guy. All cameras work great outdoors, in natural lighting, though.
It may be helpful if some users play with the "Scenes" and find appropriate settings for the indoor subjects. I did not use the Smile features as I thought they were not necessary in producing good photos, but the variety of "Scenes" did make taking photos during Dawn/Dusk a bit easier.

Solid camera, small. Great success as a gift. I went with the P6000 for myself but must admit I often think of buying one of these as well.
