Digital camera reviews of Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor LensDigital camera Review: Great entry level DSLR camera Summary: 4 StarsPROS - I have bought a couple point-and-shoot cameras over the years (Canon Powershot and Olympus SP-510UZ ultra zoom) and the Nikon D40 is by far a superior quality product and a step above a fixed-lens camera. So far, I have been very pleased with the sharp lens quality and excellent starter manual. This is a great camera for beginner SLR photographers who want to spend time learning more about aperture, shutter speed and various exposure settings to take quality photos. As a newbie in DSLR, I took the camera out of the box and began to shoot some quality images right away without really knowing what I was doing. It is a very user-friendly camera that anyone can use.
CONS- no depth-of-field preview button, no top LCD screen, and one must buy more expensive add-on lenses with the autofocus driver built into the lens itself because the camera body does not have the lens motor.
Digital camera Review: Nikon Camera review Summary: 5 StarsWas exactly as advertised and received before estimated ship date. Used it at both our high school graduation and vacation and could not be more pleased. I will used this company again......They are excellent
Digital camera Review: Makes you crave for better and bigger Summary: 5 StarsAbsolutely no SLR experience did I have before buying D40. I used crappy Sony powershot before moving on to D-SLR technology. Everybody around here has appreciated this little master. I have taken lots of my son's pics (my main reason of buying D-SLR) and 99% have come out great. Pount and shoot, digital cameras are slower and by the time they take a picture, kids close their eyes or run away or stop doing those sweet things which you wanted to capture. D-SLR changes that. Feel free to capture those moments and be assured that they will come out great. Colors are crisp and the built flexibility is beyond the scope of this review . There is one problem however. These D-SLRs make you feel a better photographer and makes you crave for better and bigger lenses. Suddenly you want to take that picture of horizon or mountains zoomed night photos. The kit lens is limited to low zoom (high quality though). Also, vibration reduction does not come standard. I am sure once I move to 50-200 mm VR lens, things will be alright for me. I am thoroughly enjoying the camera. I love it. Thanks to various digital photography sites like DPreview.com that has some wonderful people to help you out.
Digital camera Review: The Nikon d40 With 18-55mm Lens Summary: 3 StarsWell, today i got my nikon d40 dslr from amazon.com. I was really happy, thank goodness i didn't have to pay customs for it :P. It came in a nice box with the very noticeable amazon.com emble. Flying it to the bahamas takes time, but was generally empressed with yellow air taxi's speed. Well, let's get to the review, and stop talking about my personal experiences :)
The Pros
1)A large two and a half inch screen
2)Easy to read menus, and the brightness can be controlled
3)rechargeable batteries ( no more aa's).
4)The lens that it comes with ( it can produce very good quality pictures go to [...] for more info on the results expected from this lens.
5)Focusing is quick ( usually )
6)Is easy and comfortable to hold
The cons
1) only has six megapixels ( which is enough for some )
2) the auto-focus something tries for a while, and went it can't focus it doesn't bother to try again, it just stops, and then you have to start all over again
3) I noticed alot of fringe in the images, you know when the lines seems to have static around them ( not blur, this is something different)
4) Doesn't look much like a regular slr, it really small and compact, which is good to some, but not to me
5) The lens seems really cheap ( really light and plastic )
Conclusion, if you want a small, more then starter slr, with easy to read controls, get this camera. It only has six megapixel, which is enough for some, but not enough for me. But, i'm not complaining, the image quality is much better than a regular point and shoot camera. You can expect great pictures. I don't have much negative :P ( to say about the nikon d40)But, the most thing about it is that is feels really cheap, but dont judge it by that.
You should consider the pros and cons,

Digital camera Review: It all comes together with this outstanding camera Summary: 5 StarsI have been searching for a great camera. I had Canon D30 and got a 350D (Rebel XT) and found it to be a very compelling camera. One of the reasons I bought it over the Nikon was for the extra mega-pixels and it got good reviews. I still like it but it's no longer my first choice and I may soon sell it because subjectively the Nikon's better. I got a great deal on a Sony a100 and it's a terrific camera. I've got tele lenses and in poor light it stabilizes the picture well enough to allow the shutter to stay open as long as it needs to properly expose the shot and there's no blur because of the anti-shake. So for long distance it's a great choice. It's a great camera and I'm keeping it because of its amazing capabilities. But this Nikon D40 hit a sweet spot for me. If I'm going to grab a camera to take a great shot, I grab the D40. Inside and out it takes quick, sure fire great shots. Light with great LCD and the best menu system with help even. It's quick and the pictures are smooth and just gorgeous. I go ahead and ask it for "vivid" color so I don't have to post process much and usually set the exposure to under expose a hair. It's easier to lighten than to darken if you want proper detail. Most of the shots require little or nothing. If you are in the market for a high grade consumer camera or a walk around camera for a semi-pro this is a can't miss choice. Just wait to see your pictures and baby you can drill down all you want to look for noise and its just not there. This is one sweet camera. Highly recommended...
