I recently spent a week at Disney and order this battery as a backup to the one that originally came with my D60. I shot over 600 photos, roughly a third requiring flash. Between both batteries I only used roughly 1/3 of their combined charge. I was hesitant to buy the camera initially because of the battery, but these things will go forever! It will let me shoot hundreds, if not thousands of photos before recharge time. I'm not a heavy shooter, but I carry two of these and swap them just so they'll last longer.

If you are looking for a spare battery for your D40, I recommend you purchase the Nikon accessory kit instead (comes with a great Nikon camera bag, spare battery identical to this one and a photo guide). This is probably a complete fluke.
I fully charged the battery as instructed. It lasted one week and 102 pictures. I know these Lithium Ion batteries are supposed to "keep on running" (okay, different brand), but I'll bet they usually last a bit longer than that.
I'm going to give it another shot, so to speak.
