Digital camera reviews of Nikon MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack for Nikon D300 & D700 Digital SLR Cameras (Retail Packaging)

Digital camera Review: I use on D300s and D700
Summary: 5 Stars

Lets me use the same EN-EL4 battery as my D3s so I only need one type and one charger. The AA battery tray was the real reason that I purchased this. You can't always find a place to charge a battery but they sell AA batteries at the Timbuktu Gas & Grocery, so you will always have the power you need, when you need it. This is especially true when you need a backup battery but didn't have time to charge the thing. A set of lithium AAs will store for seven years and always be ready when you need them. Max frames per second are available on AAs too as well as when using the EN-EL4 battery.
Removable when you don't need the portrait grip or additional battery capacity to keep camera size and weight to a minimum. As sturdy as the camera body and a very good fit. Certainly better than the old L shaped MB-series (MB-D100 & 200 especially) which were impossible to pack and a real pain to install.

Digital camera Review: Indispensable
Summary: 5 Stars

For my D700's the MB-D10 is something I wouldn't do without. I shoot weddings and it is rare that I even go through a single battery but having the extra one is good security and very convenient.
The grip also helps balance the camera and that is true especially with heavier lenses.

These are built well and seem much sturdier than other battery grips.
I recommend them for anyone who does a lot of shooting.

Digital camera Review: It completes The D300
Summary: 5 Stars

The material and the fit is perfect. It looks like it was factory installed. Makes the camera feel very sturdy. The burst rate is fantastic. I like the option of being able to use Akaline batteries if I get in a pinch. This is a must have option.

Digital camera Review: It's a Rock!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this MB-D10 for about 3 weeks now. Hunt's Photo......South Portland, Maine. From the moment I attached it to my D300 and began handling the unit I made a decision....I would never take it off. Instantly, it is that much of an exciting change! With this thing attached, the camera feels great in my hand. Without it, the camera is somewhat out of balance......a little awkward handling. The MB D10 is well-fitted and of the absolute highest material-quality and build-quality. I know because I am one fussy bastard when it comes to these things. It feels as if the MB D10 is actually part of the camera. And the black rubber surface covering the MB D10 is identical to that super-tacky, pro-grade rubber that covers the D300.

The problem that I have read about regarding the vertical shutter release tripping prematurely has been corrected. There is no such tendency in the copy I have. The vertical release requires the same force to trip the shutter as the main shutter release on the D300......no difference at all! All and all, I would say that no matter how critical one chooses to be........the Nikon MB D10 earns all 5 STARS...hands down!

UPDATE: I have had it about 2 months now. I feel compelled to retract one claim I made: The vertical shutter release button is slightly more sensitive than the camera's button. My mistake. Not there is a small difference there. Also, I did take the MB D10 off the camera. Why? Because if for any number of reasons having the MB D10 attached is not a priority, I find that without it my camera is much less bulkly hanging from my shoulder, under my coat. In other words.....if "walkabout" shooting is the order for the day and bulkiness under my coat is an detach the MB D10. If bulkiness is not an issue, I like it better with the grip on.

And there is an advantage of the D300 over the D3 or D3X. Like the D3 and D3X, the D300 says "pro" with the MB D10 attached (and rightfully so!), but it can also be detached. I love it!

Digital camera Review: Just Do It
Summary: 5 Stars

If you have a D300 // D700. This is a must have accessory. Speed. Vertical grip. Second Thumb controller. Only when you want them. Smaller camera when you don't...

When used with 8 AA batteries, the D300 and D700 occasionally reverted back to the camera battery and therefore 5/6 frames per second. This peculiar activity was cured by changing to the Nikon EN-EL4A battery. If you need reliable 8FPS, budget accordingly.
