Digital camera reviews of Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

Digital camera Review: A must have
Summary: 5 Stars

This has been probably the best investment I've made for my D80. The lighting system is fantastic. With my Nikon D80 which has a commander mode, this SB-600 works wireless from the camera and nothing else is needed to operate wirelessly. Do yourself a favor and invest in this flash unit. Not only can it work wirelessly, but can work in the hotshoe on the camera also. The best of both worlds.

Digital camera Review: A must have upgrade
Summary: 4 Stars

Before getting any upgrades for your new Nikon, you should consider an external flash. Your indoor photography will go from snapshots to studio like work in no time. The SB600 has met my expectation. My only complaint is that the LCD is a bit small and I would rather have a on off switch instead of a button that you just hold down. Other than that, great recycle times and good results.

Digital camera Review: A necessary accessory
Summary: 5 Stars

More power, flexibility, bounce option. Much nicer flash pictures than the built in unit. Get the Stofen diffuser, too. Makes for very pleasant indoor shots.

Digital camera Review: A wonderful Speedlight with many features.
Summary: 4 Stars

I considered many flash options for my Nikon D80 and finally settled on the SB-600. It seemed the perfect med/high end choice for a med/high end camera. It did not disappoint. Being able to raise and lower the intensity of the flash with the simple push of a button on the unit is a huge help. It's built in defuser works lovely when it is needed. If you are a pro or serious user this is a great speedlight and will serve you well. It will also work on the great Canon G9 compact camera as well. Highly recommended.

Digital camera Review: A word of Warning for CoolPix owners
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this for use with my CoolPix 5000 camera because Nikon's tech support had recomended it. They said it would improve my indoor shots (because the CP 5000 has a terrible flash built-in), but instead it overloads the shots and they come out mostly white. I read the manual carefully and it looks like the reason is that this flash is built to automatically or manually focus the light for a 14mm to 70mm lense and the CP 5000 has a 7.2mm lense. I subsequently purchased a Nikon D70s camera (1,000,000 times better camera) and this flash is great for extremely dark shots on that camera (though the built-in flash is perfect for fill so this is really only for night shots and shots in darkness where I want to get something far away). If you own a CoolPix camera, consider buying a used flash that isn't as powerfull. If you own a D70s and want superior night photography, this is the best flash in the world (good thing I ended up in the latter end of the spectrum).
