I took some pictures at a night-time football game and this flash lit up THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD! This thing is powerful!! At the same time, it is as gentle as you want it to be, and fully adjustable to any shot you need. I bought it just a couple days ago, and put it on my D40. I read the manual (the flash is easy to use, not much reading necessary) and then made some self portraits bouncing the light off the ceiling and walls. I was totally pleased with the results.
Just today, I had a small shoot at a real-estate company office, getting some portraits and office shots for their website. Again, on the D40 with the 55-200mm VR lens, results were awesome. Same as before, I put the flash head at 45 degrees to get partial direct lighting and partial soft lighting off the wall and ceiling. Wonderful highlights on skin, soft, even and flattering, and great exposure nearly every time, without having to think about it. I just looked down the lens at the action and shot as I felt it come. The client loved the results, and I was totally pumped. Great purchase!
Put this together with a D40 and the 55-200mm AF-S DX VR lens, and you've got a state-of-the-art, light-weight, go anywhere, do anything photo machine for a bargain price. Score for Nikon!!!

I am new to photography and this flash has taken me to the next level. I have always relied on the built in flash and I can honestly say I wish that I hadn't because so many of my pictures would have become keepers instead of washed out or shadow filled images.
