Digital camera reviews of Nyrius SW100 Digital Audio Optical Toslink 3 Input Selector Switch Compatible with Fiber Optic Cables, HDTV, Blu-ray DVD player, PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS, XBOX360, PS3Digital camera Review: A good find to solve my too-few-ports problem. Summary: 4 Stars
The switch was a great solution for me. I have a 10 year old surround sound system with only a single fiber optic input. The switch saved a lot of hassle and a lot of money. I have an HDMI switch too. The only challenge so far is to explain to my wife that selecting 1 on both means TV and selecting 2 means Apple TV. :)
Digital camera Review: About time! Summary: 5 Stars
Really need this as my TV (Panasonic Viera) doesn't pass a 5.1 signal through, only passes stereo.
This is great to switch between xbox, tivo and apple tv.
Wish it had a remote to switch though.
Digital camera Review: Arrived DOA Summary: 1 Stars
I picked this up for the same reason most people probably are - not enough optical inputs on your receiver, right?
Unfortunately the unit I received was DOA. Maybe I just had bad luck, but I'm not taking a second chance. Most other units look pretty much the same, which is unfortunate because it's a really light, flimsy little design that weighs just a few ounces. One of those deals where the cables you hook into it exert more tension force onto it than the weight of the device so it never quite sits the way you wish it would, so even if it worked, I was unhappy with its construction.
When mine didn't work I popped it open and the first little touch made the whole thing fly apart. I can see how they probably get defective in shipping, as the internals are all pretty flimsy and sensitive to movement. It's a basic injection molded two piece plastic frame with a two-piece rotator with the spring to get the snap-in lock to work. There are no internal screws or ties or hot glue points or anything to hold it together whatsoever.
If you have any reason whatsoever to replace your "not enough inputs" receiver OTHER than just needing more optical, or you have enough money to do it, I'd just buy a new receiver instead of gambling with these klinky little devices.
Digital camera Review: As described Summary: 5 Stars
This switch is exactly what I was looking for. I have a Bose Cinemate system which only allows for one TOSlink connection, yet I have an HD cable box, a Sony PS3, an HD TV, etc, that all have their own digital optical inputs. By running all cables to this switch, I can very easily switch between the sound source depending upon what I am viewing at that particular time. It's a great product. The design feels a little cheap because it's made of plastic, but it serves the purpose and just sits on my entertainment center, so again, I am pleased and feel the ease of use, design, and functionality warrant giving this 5 stars.
Digital camera Review: Audio made easy Summary: 5 Stars
Before I purchased this Nyrius SW100 selector switch, I was constantly climbing behind my equipment to switch what device was plugged into my receiver..Now It takes just a second to switch between 3 devices without having to plug in or unplug anything..I cant believe I didn't buy this switch years ago
