Digital camera Review: A very good player

Pros: Image and sound are nearly perfect for an average viewer, though a more experienced person would notice some flaws. Upconversion to 1080p is exceptionally good. Region restrictions go off with a few clicks. Controls are comprehensive, remote has glow-in-the-dark buttons. HDMI cable included which is pretty rare. Have used it for a month with 42" plasma and ProBook, so far no malfunctioning. Overall, one of the best players.
Cons: A bit slow. IR sensor takes signals within a narrow +/-30 degrees angle. Glowing could be made brighter. Expensive compared to other HD players.

I did research as to what type of DVD player to buy and everywhere I looked the same conclusion one of the OPPO's. I am happy to say that I agree 100% this is a great unit. I did not believe there would be that much of an improvement in the video and the audio. I ordered this from Amazon with shipping to another country. THe package was well done with all the essential item in the box. The first impression from outside, finish was excellent. The audio and video performance is excellent. Using it as DVD-Audio player on multichannel output connected with Yamaha amplifier. Thrilled overall. You can check the specs so needless to mention here. Overall it is fantastic with plenty of features for formats and connectivity and lot of settings.
Further, I believe this is the only player to upscale the video on component outputs if the source is not copy protected. This feature alone make it stand and shine from others. Plus the cost is not high compared with others.
I am very much satisfied with this purchase. Go for it if you care for quality at reasonable price.

I have a brand new yamaha 5 dvd changer that I thought would do for my HT room. The picture looked great until I got the 980 up and running. I noticed a big difference when both player were at 480P. The Oppo looks more real looking.
My dlp projector doesn't go to 1080P so I can only go to 720P or 1080I and it looks great.
As far as sound goes I can't tell a huge difference, but like the video the OPPO sounds more natural..
I challenged myself to find a bad review but after 2 weeks of reading great reviews I ordered one..No regrets except I wish I had bought it up front!!

Picture quality is excellent and the the sound is also very good Slim and light. one of the main reasons I purchased this particular model was the USB port and the capability of playing MP3's. Well, I assumed it would play the music I download at 192kpbs NOPE. That is technically MP4 and the OPPO DOES NOT PLAY MP4. Super bummer. So much for playing all my digital music. Also, the load time is SUPER SLOW so if you are impatient, this unit will test you.
Okay, so it doesn't play MP4's and the load time is slow. Still, the picture quality is top notch. If space and price are issues, this is a good player.
