Digital camera reviews of Olevia 332H 32-Inch LCD HD Ready MonitorDigital camera Review: Good Value Summary: 5 Stars
A few years later and the tv I bought for my son's room still works and shows a great picture. My son also uses it for gaming and as a pc monitor. Not the most attractive tv, but a good value nonetheless..
Digital camera Review: Good Value HDTV Summary: 4 Stars
You get what you pay for with this TV. There are no special bells and wistles to write home about, but this is expected when you're only paying a few hundred dollars for a TV this size.
I guess I should explain my set up before I get into detail. I have my laptop with Windows Media Center connected via the VGA cable. I have the Sony DAV-DX375 (5.1 DVD Receiver) connected via S-Vid (Eventually I'll invest in an HDMI cable to allow for 480p DVD playback), a Nintendo Wii connected via Component, and a Playstation 2 connected via Composite. All the audio is run through the Reciever, so I don't even use speakers on the TV; the TV is more or less just a monitor.
I use my computer as a TV tuner. I've managed to play enough with Media Center and the TV enough to get a good picture for the standard TV signal. You really don't notice how ugly standard TV is until it gets blown up by an HDTV. Regular computer use and high quality media playback on the computer is great.
DVD Playback looks great. Even non-widescreen formatted DVDs use the entire screen without being cut appart or stretched. Widescreen formatted DVDs will show small black bars on the top and bottom but you can fix that by changing the aspect. The picture with only an S-Vid cable really looks nice, better then any other TV I've watched a movie on.
Playing my Wii with the Component cables makes games look even better. There is such a huge difference between 480i and 480p and this TV lets you actually see it. I am extremely satisfied with the playback via the Component inputs.
As of the PS2, I'm really disappointed. I have the system connected via the composite inputs and I've tried messing with all the settings, but the picture becomes extremely pixilated and the quality is poor. I would much rather play those games on my old TV so I don't get so annoyed.
It would have been nice if the TV included PiP and Split Screen for the different TV inputs. For example, it would be great if I could be playing PS2 while watching a basketball game.
Another complaint is the lack of Audio Outputs. They only have the headphone jack and that only works when the TV is on VGA, VGA Component, or HDMI. I had to rig up my system by buying a bunch of cables to connect into my Receiver.
While there are TVs within a similar price range with more features, they lack in other specs. This TV is a great bargain for everything you're getting. If you're a first time HDTV buyer and not ready to take the plunge into a similar sized TV for more then twice the price, this TV is for you. You get a good taste of what you should expect for less then half the price!
Digital camera Review: Good hdtv for the price, has remote problems Summary: 4 Stars
I just got this TV and while the picture quality is pretty good it has one very annoying problem. Because of how new this TV is and Olevia not supporting any older codes any universal remote that doesn't have a learning feature will not work with this TV. Even then only a few learning remotes seem to work (harmony remotes are reported to work best). Unfortunately this also means my Tivo remote control can't control the power or volume. Additionally the Tivo remote will sometimes turn the TV off if used shortly after turning on the TV.
Other than that it seems to be a great tv for the price.
Digital camera Review: Great Monitor Summary: 5 Stars
I was worried that this would be a waste of money believing firmly in the you get what you pay for motto. But I guess there are always a few exceptions to the rules, this is a great TV with a crystal clear picture. it was easy to set up both our cable box and the video games. Just remember that it don't have a tuner, for the low tech people that means you need to have a cable box (or VCR) to change channels. Great display for the price.
Digital camera Review: Great TV at a sane price Summary: 5 Stars
This TV has a great picture, is easy to install, and has a handsome case. Also, Olevia's technical support is superior. I called and e-mailed with a couple of questions. The response was quick and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
