Digital camera Review: Capturing Family History
Summary: 5 Stars

This recorder is so easy I put it to use as soon as the batteries were in. It is so easy and convenient to organize each folder, and the sound is quite amazing for such a little thing. Though I am still learning about all its capabilities, I already love it, and am having a blast recording my childrens' voices, songs and anecdotes. I like that it allows me room to grow, because it's more than I need for recording the family history (my kids can't wait for me start using the MP3 option, and I don't even know what that is yet!). I will use it to capture as much oral history as possible at our family reunion, then make copies for family members... so much easier than the written records I started ten years ago!

Digital camera Review: Changed My Life
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm responsible for taking minutes at a 2 hour long technology meeting. With my previous tape recorder, there was so much "noise" and it was hard to understand what people were saying. But this stereo digital device picks up everyone's voice crystal clear. I always worry about losing information by pushing the wrong button, but the the software allows me to backup the meeting on my computer. This product has made the agonizing transcription of "heady" information much more palatable.

Summary: 4 Stars

Product performs well. The only con so far is not being able to turn up the recording volume and maybe a more expensive version of this product would have that particular feature. Being a poor graduate student, this is what I could afford, so I'm making it work for me!

Digital camera Review: DS-30 a handy little box.
Summary: 5 Stars

I need to record sermons in digital format so I can easily burn them to a CD. The format is WMA but software converts to other things. I don't like wireless mics; too much trouble. The DS-30 is wireless in the perfect sense; small, self contained; easy to understand and operate, AND without a rechargable battery pack (it uses 2 AAA cells). The supplied stereo mic uses a standard mini stereo plug, so I can use a cheap clip-on mic. Three mic input settings allow different mic gains or recording distances. Sound quality is excellent. A lot of memory(256Mb)divided into 5 folders makes uploading easy.

Digital camera Review: DS-30 is superb--and works with Macs
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this a while back--one for myself to record meetings, ideas, brief notes, etc., and another for family use. This is a superb digital recorder, even if the Olympus support page (such as it is) turns out to be pretty lame. This recorder does have some voice announcement support, which is helpful for people with low/no vision; however it does not read file titles which would be a most desirable addition!! The whole "machine" is very small and handy. It has a choice of mono or stereo mikes, as you'll know from reading the description. Controls have been thought through in a good fashion and the choices for setup are many.

It works nicely with Macs. The DS-30 (and DS-40, etc) shows up as an external drive on the desktop---and you go from there. There is also a report on a thread that you can get an update on the DSS Player from the Olympus webpage under downloads for the DS-2. I have not tried that.

Again, this is a superb digital recorder. You won't go wrong.
