Digital camera reviews of Olympus DS-30 Digital Voice RecorderDigital camera Review: Great device, but... Summary: 4 Stars
I just got this and it appears to be a very high quality device. Pickup and playback are both quite good, and it is very easy to use. My only problem with it so far is that there is no apparent way to change file and folder names. There are presets for folder names that you can change to, but none of them work for me. That is going to make it more difficult to use this device as I had hoped to. However, the inability to create custom names for files and folders may not be a problem for some, in which case I think this is a very good product.
Digital camera Review: Great for Recording Lectures Summary: 5 Stars
I upgraded to the DS-30 from the VN4100PC and the difference in quality is very noticeable. I originally purchased the VN 4100 PC for my daughter to use in college to record lectures in class (not a lecture hall mind you but a normal size class room). While the 4100 would be okay for recording your thoughts or ideas, it was inadequate for recording in a classroom setting. You had to strain to hear what the professor was saying, making the whole experience of listening to previous lectures a less than enjoyable experience. That's when I upgraded to the DS-30, which records in stereo. More importantly, the quality of the recording is dramatically better than the 4100. If you want to record lectures the DS-30 is the one to buy! Yes, it costs more, but it's worth it.
Digital camera Review: Great for lectures Summary: 5 Stars
I have never owned a voice recorder so have nothing to compare it to, but I like this gadget. I bought it for college lectures and have one professor that I was concerned the recorder would not pick up, but it picked her up beautifully without any external mics. However, I do sit two rows from her. The recordings sound better through earphones and the computer than the speaker on the device, which is not a problem for me. The software was easy to install and it was very simple to download the recordings to my Windows based computer. My only complaint is there is not software for a Mac for the DS-30. I have seen where the latest Olympus recorders include Mac software now.
Digital camera Review: Great little recorder Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first recorder I've ever bought and I'm very impressed with it! It's small enough it fits down inside of a shirt pocket. It has exceptional sound and I love all of it's features. I would recommend this recorder to anyone.
Digital camera Review: Great product Summary: 5 Stars
I am not a professional, so I just bought the seemingly best voice recorder I saw on the shelf. This voice recorder offers extremely high quality voice recording, it records over 70 hours. It stores files in different folders, you can de-attach the microphone ,you can (and this is awesome I think) modify the mike's sensitivity and you can attach an external microphone and headphones. I was more than satisfied with this little wonder of technology. Clearly, for professionals this might offer little more than voice recording capabilities, but if you are looking for just that, you probably get one of the best ones available
