Digital camera reviews of Olympus DS-40 Digital Voice RecorderDigital camera Review: Does NOT connect with VIsta with or without software/cable supplied Summary: 3 Stars
I can't get any information off of this device. Is not recognized as a device, a removable storage unit, nor as a synched device through the software. Tried on three Vista computers (two home basic, one Home Premium). No answer from Olympus in a week so far. The bootleg I made of a band in a bar right in front of the speakers sounds pretty good (upside down on folding chair between my legs so the red REC light wouldnt show. Great quality, but no quick-start. No removable media nor integral USB like other models. This is 512MB but already half of the way full after the BEST recording rate - about 6 hours school recording and a 1.5 hour concert and other dictation. Not bad! But...
Until I get help from Olympus, this unit is useless to me when it gets full.
Digital camera Review: Does the Job Summary: 4 Stars
Does the job! More complicated than I like. My flip video camera is the only thing I've bought recently that was easy to use!
Digital camera Review: Does the job Summary: 4 Stars
I use it to record my lectures at college (with the professor's permission). It catches every word, and is easy to turn on and off in a hurry. I wish it were rechargeable and smaller, but I'm happy to have it.
Digital camera Review: Dragon NaturallySpeaking Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this recorder for use in voice dictation. I was aprehensive about the accuracy, but decided to take a chance. I am glad I did. I dictate anywhere, then translate at home. It is necessary to speak clearly and with distinct articulation, but if you do, the translations are very accurate. I tend to dictate 1 to 2 full pages at a time, which I then proof-read after the translation. Even with the correction time, it takes half the time it would have if I type.
Digital camera Review: Easy and convenient Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product to record stories my 4-year-old daughter made up at bedtime. I was amazed how well the built in microphone picked up her voice--very clear. I have a MAC and plugging in the USB and opening files was seamless - it acted just like a jump drive. Additionally, with a free converter (iPod doesn't like WMA files) I was able to put the recodings on my iPod. Very, very pleased with this product.
