Digital camera reviews of Olympus DS-40 Digital Voice RecorderDigital camera Review: Excellent item - louzy Olympus Support Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this item on Feb 2008 and on May 2008 it started having problems with recording. I bought it from the States and I live in Greece so I went to local Olympus service to find out that I had to ship it back to US in order to get support otherwise I would have to pay about 70 USD in order to get it fixed. One way or another I contacted US Olympus support via email and after a week I still have no reply what to do. One more example on how excellent products are buried by companies who do not respect the consumer.
Get a Sony / Panasonic or something else. At least they reply to emails.
Digital camera Review: Excellent product - probably best in price range Summary: 5 Stars
Excellent product - I'm very happy with the recording quality as well with overall appearance. I also tried the Panasonic USRR-500 which is around the same price, but the Olympus unit is far, far superior.
Digital camera Review: Excellent recorder for classroom lecture Summary: 5 Stars
I use this recorder to record the lectures, and I found it excellent for recording and playback.
(1) The included external stereo microphone greatly improves the quality of recording. When I do not use the external microphone, the sound quality is reduced quite a bit and is about the same as other recorders. By implication, this recorder with the external microphone included is a cut above all other recorders that are without an external microphone.
(2) Ability to play back with Noise Reduction. If you have used a voice recorder, you know how annoying the background noise is. This unit can digitally suppress the background noise without sacrificing the voice quality - making the recording much easier and more pleasant to listen to.
(3) Ability to skip forward (e.g. 5 min each push of a button) and fast forward - essential function when each lecture is about an hour long.
(4) The included software is very functional and convenient for backup and playback on computer, and it also has the important noise reduction function.
(5) I use HQ mono mode, about 12 Mb of data per hour. The sound quality is adequate for lectures. The 512 Mb included memory is a pity in view of how cheap flash memory is these days.
For the above mentioned features, especially the included external microphone, I highly recommend this recorder.
Digital camera Review: Excellent voice recorder, but wish it had a case and less buttons Summary: 4 Stars
This voice recorder has excellent sound quality and transferring files to a computer is very easy. My only gripe is that it has 15 buttons (!) and a plastic-faced electronic display exposed on the outside and it does not come with a case. This means that the most natural place you'd like to put it (in your pocket) really isn't an option if you have keys or anything sharp in your pocket. Otherwise, I am very happy with this unit for note taking and dictating at the office.
Digital camera Review: First voice recorder purchase Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first voice recorder purchase and it worked very well. I bit sensitive because it picked up the noise every time I shifted in my chair but overall I thought it did a good job and was easy to use.
