Just purchased this recorder today. Literally went from Staples to history class, unwrapping it along the way. Didn't have to read the manual at all, just sat in my chair, in the middle of the class, turned in on (of course, put the batteries first) and hit the record button. I recorded an hour and a half lecture and went home and transferred it to my computer in about 2 minutes.
This is a really handy device and for the price, I think it serves it's purpose very well. As other reviewers have mentioned, however, it does have a slightly light-weight, almost flimsy, feel, but overall I think it seems well-built and would probably tolerate being dropped a couple times.
Today is my first time using it, and, I'd say within about 10 minutes I'd figured out everything that can be done with it. Which, in one way, may seem to suggest that it has limited functions, but, I feel that it's more important that an item like this be fool-proof, and super easy to use. This Olympus is fool-proof.

Bought this about 3 weeks ago. Good sound for a little recorder.
I read the manual - which comes with 4 sets of languages.
Some important advice - don't lose the English one.
Accidentally hit the wrong button and was stuck on fast play back - then slow play. Finally downloaded the English manual from their site but was too tiny too read. Lopsided online manual won't fit on any American paper form...They must have something against 8.50" x 11" forms?
Got it working again after 1/2 an hour.
Easy to run and transfer to PC.
Rememeber to have the speaker which is in the back, face you.
Taped my band with it and was Ok when replayed with decent speakers.
Most likely would buy it again dispite the multi finction buttons.
Just keep the manual handy if you fat finger it like I did....

Received this last week and tested it out. the sound quality is really good. it's fairly easy to use (you just have to look thru the manual to set up the date etc). i like how they have different folders so that you can store different lectures/memo's on there. school starts next monday so i cannot wait to test it out in a real classroom setting. i did a practice recording with it w/ someone 7 feet away and the sound quality is excellent. i'd recommend this product to any student.
