My son needed a voice recorder for school that could NOT play videos, so I bought this one; otherwise we would have used a MP3 player that also records. This one works well for lectures and we can transfer files from our computer to the device for play (we use the free publicly available CDEX program to convert from whatever to WMA files). It only has a mono earphone jack so that makes it a little problematic for normal stereo headphones. This recorder works fine for me. I use it to record lectures and some music ideas (guitar). It is very easy to use, just press Rec to record and stop to finish the recording. The quality is good, even though I'm not very far away from the professor. Maybe in a big classroom won't work as good as it works for me in a small classroom (~ 40 people classroom). The quality of the recording is good (in HQ mode, I haven't tried the other mode) and the batteries seem to last enough time. Maybe one drawback for some people could be the short USB cable, to connect the recorder to the computer (about 5 inches). For the price - this is a great digital recorder. I use it mostly for recording notes for website content ideas (blogging). It doesn't work well for recording two way conversations (interviews) through the built in microphone but otherwise the sound quality is great. The USB cord they provide is quite short but I use it mostly with a laptop and have other cords that are compatible. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.
