I have an Olympus WS-331M. I use this to record seminars and lectures. The sound quality is significantly better than the stock mic. Keep in mind you still have to "sit up front" to get a good recording. What I liked was the "lows" the mic was able to pick up. I was apprehensive at first. I ordered this mic for a Zi8 camera that I had to return for defective. The replacement for that Zi8 will be a better Sanyo VPC-CG20 which has no external microphone jack (on-board mic is stereo and much better than the one used by the Zi8).
I tested the microphone with an old Olympus digital recorder which has a mono jack input, thru an stereo to mono adapter. The recordings were very good. I also used the ME51S by plugging it to the Realtek mic jack in my PC and the quality of the sound was amazing.
I intend to use it to record the sound of some learning videos I will be shooting soon about project management short lessons.

I have an Olympus WS-300 which I liked for recording classes in grad school - it picked up just about everything. The addition of this microphone make the unit into a really amazing piece of equipment. This external microphone is very handy. I use it to record myself while I'm practicing with my chorus. It came with an extention cord and clip that allows me to start the recording then place the recorder in my pocket while I have the the microphone clipped on my shirt. This leaves my hands free for "performing". I love it and am glad I got it through Amazon.com because I didn't have to go back and forth driving from store to store to find what I was looking for.
