Digital camera Review: Very nice binoculars, with only one minor complaint.

These binoculars were a very pleasant surprise! The image is very sharp all the way across the field of view (even at the edges), and the images are brighter than I would have thought they would be for 8x21 binoculars (and it's corresponding small exit pupil size). The fact that they have porro prisms makes the big difference. When I compare these to most sets of similar priced 8x21 roof prism binoculars, it becomes quite apparent that roof prism binoculars just don't compare in quality to porro prisms in brightness & contrast, unless a person is willing (and able) to pay for the MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE binoculars that have the higher engineered grade roof prisms. In addition, the close range focus is somewhere between 4 and 5 feet, which is much closer than any other binoculars I have used, or own (with the next best being somewhere between 8 and 10 feet). My only complaint is the the way the neck strap is attached. It only hooks up to one side of the binoculars, rather than on both sides (or in the center). This leaves the binoculars hanging at an angle next to my body, which increases the chances I'll inadvertently grab them in such a way as to get finger smudges on the lenses. In addition, the strap length can't be adjusted, and so the binoculars dangle down almost to my waist. If the strap was attached to both sides of the binoculars, with a way to adjust the length, they would be perfect. But still ... a very nice set of binoculars, especially for the price I paid for them!
