Digital camera reviews of Olympus S-711 Microcasette Recorder (Blue)

Digital camera Review: Bargain Price for Above-Average Performance
Summary: 4 Stars

No problems here. Beats higher-priced similar models from competitors like Sony and Panasonic. The aesthetics/design quotient is a nice extra, too.

Digital camera Review: Disappointed
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this item quite recently, and although the sound has never been what I'd call "perfect", I felt it was an adequate recorder for the price I paid. However, after using this device for only 2 short months, I played the tape back one day only to find that the sound was completely garbled and distorted. After trying 3 different sets of batteries, the sound remained the same. I contacted the company hoping they would be able to offer some help and advice, but all they did was suggest that I send the item to their facility for servicing. After shipping and handling, this would have cost me more than the price of the item itself. Needless to say, I am very disappointed that this recorder has lasted for only 2 months. Consequently, I am now forced to make another purchase--something I had no intentions of having to do. This time, however, I will be sure to obtain some kind of back up warranty or replacement plan along with my purchase. I do hope other people have better luck with this recorder!

Digital camera Review: Does what I want it to! That's all that matters!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a musician, and I own an eight track digital recorder for completed musical ideas, but sometimes i wake up at night with a vocal or lyrical idea that i just don't want to forget. I can keep this handy little recorder by my bed, that way i won't forget my great ideas. This product does what i want it to do, it helps me get my ideas out so that I don't forget them the next day. I heard that the idea for the opening riff for "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones was recorded as Keith Richards awoke with an idea in his head. It has been said that all that could be heard on the rest of the tape is Keith snoring! lol!! this may not be that very recorder, but it'll do fine by me.

Digital camera Review: GREAT!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my second recorder and recording and playback are far superior to my Sony recorder. The mic and speaker reproduce decently crisp recordings. For a low-end recorder, this is a great option for the money.

Digital camera Review: Good for voice note, not that good for music practice
Summary: 3 Stars

So-so for me.

I would have given it 5 stars if I use it only for voice note. It does what it is supposed to, and it does it well.

However, it didn't work well for my daughter's violin lesson. The idea was she records herself and/or her teacher, and later she plays along with the recorded thing for practice.

The problem is, the recorded notes sound always a bit higher than originally played on the instrument. I guess the tape speed is faster when playing back than when recording, for some reason. Maybe you wouldn't notice at first, but as soon as you try to play along with the tape it becomes apparent.

Probably I was hoping too much for an inexpensive microcasette recorder, though. I wouldn't blame the manufacturer.
