I bought one of these after I lost my first digital waterproof camera to the Bullnose River in GA during a kayaking trip. After reading the reviews I purchased it and immediately hooked it to my Polaroid Digital Waterproof camera and tossed it into the pool. Not only did it float, the strap itself never went below the water. I tried dropping it from several heights up to 10 feet above the water, all with the same result - upon entering the water the strap immediately stopped the camera from sinking and the strap itself never went entirely below the water. This is on a Polaroid t833. The paperwork doesn't say how much the camera weighs, but it was similar in dimensions to the Olypus and Fuji waterproof cameras I looked at in the store.
One precaution, the website I bought this from stated it was a 'neck strap'. It is not, unless you plan to let your Pomeranian carry your camera fo you. It is strictly a wrist strap. I attached an extra neck strap I had from another camera to it to make it more convenient for my use - and yes, the floating strap supports the additional weight (very minimal) in the water as well.
In all, its a cheap $20 insurance policy to keep you from losing your camera.
