Digital camera reviews of Olympus STRAP FLOAT ORANGEDigital camera Review: Beware: it's not a float!!!! Summary: 2 Stars
I have been a fan of the Stylus Tough series. I had a 770 SW then bought a 1030 SW -- I use them for skiing, snorkeling and kayaking. I bought this "float" strap and tested it before going out in my kayak. It seemed to have just enough flotation to support the camera. While out on a river with gentle current I tossed the camera to a friend in a kayak about 8 feet away. The camera with float attached hit the water, hung just below the surface for a moment and then, bizarrely, sank! The water was murky and there was enough of a current that the camera was lost. I contacted Olympus, complaining that calling this item a float was misleading to say the least. They would not replace the camera but only offered a small discount on a replacement. They should be honest and call it something else -- either it floats or it doesn't and it my case it didn't! If you use this be careful!!
Digital camera Review: Bought it for my Panasonic DMC-TS2 Summary: 5 Stars
Does exactly what I bought it for, can't see how it could sink a digital camera. Floated mine just perfect. Just like a life jacket for your camera.
Digital camera Review: Came in handy once or twice! Summary: 5 Stars
Bought the Canon Powershot D10 and the Olympus strap... don't leave home without it. We were snorkeling and went to hand off the camera accidentally dropped it and would have been diving to get it if it were not for this handy dandy strap.
It's a must!
Digital camera Review: Camera flote Summary: 4 Stars
Have not had a chance to use it in a real lake or river but I tried it out in a friends pool and it did just what I hoped. I am not using it for an olypus so my camera may be heavier then the one it is designed for. The camera floated in the middle of the water column and I was able to reach it with little effort.
Digital camera Review: DOES NOT FLOAT SW1030 Summary: 1 Stars
This would be a great product if it did what it is supposed to do. I tied a string to my camera and tossed it in the lake with the floating strap attached. the strap did not have sufficient buoyancy to float the camera. It sank and kept sinking. When it got to the end of the string 10' or so, I gave a little tug to see if it would eventually come to the surface. No deal. Maybe the 830 is lighter.
