I purchased this camera in July of 09 and love it. It takes great pictures and also takes abuse with no complaints. So far this camera has been shot with a sim munition (small dent), dropped in the Chicago river, been skiing in Canada (-40 F) and gone SCUBA diving in the Gulf of Mexico. I would recommend the "float" style wrist strap for water activities and the silicon cover to keep all the compartments closed.Digital camera Review: Bad picture quality

Pictures turn out to bright, with to much glare in the pictures. Had someone who knows a lot about cameras check her out and they said the brightness could not fixed. They tried to fix the exposure settings and they did not work, nothing we do helps. Tried playing with the shadow adjustment mode but it does not make a difference, every picture you take infront of something has your shadow and it looks like your head is disfigured. Although I had no problems with it leaking, i think it takes better pictures underwater than on land! I do not recommend this camera, to much money to spend on a camera with these kind of flaws.Digital camera Review: Battery Charging

I will have to return this camera unless I am seriously not understanding something. I plugged my fully-charged camera into my laptop via USB and within 20 minutes the battery was completely dead.
Then I noticed page 62 on the Instruction Manual where is says: During the conditions described below, power is consumed continuously and the battery becomes exhausted quickly: - The camera is connected to a computer or printer.
So, connecting the 1030 via USB doesn't charge the battery as anyone with a cell phone or PDA would expect, it actually kills it! Quickly! Connecting the camera and getting distracted for a few minutes means you have a dead battery and no more shooting for 2-3 hours while recharge it! This has to be the dumbest "feature" I've ever seen on an electronic device. Am I just missing something?

This is the third Olympus Stylus 1030 SW I've purchased in the last year for myself and family members. We have had no problems with this camera at all and buying through Amazon is absolutely the way to go.
The only negative feature with this camera is very, very low volumn when you use the video side of the camera and Olympus is aware of the problem.
Digital camera Review: Better have a steady hand

The camera is durable as my wife found out when she dropped it out of her lap exiting the car. I love to show off it's waterproof by dropping it in a glass of water in front of friends (make sure everything is closed).
It takes great pictures, but my gosh, you better have a steady hand. My wife can't take a focused picture to save her life and even when I try, it is difficult. I've tried different settings, even the "steady hand" and I get a good amount of pictures but I'd say 30% are out of focus. And when you take trips or are trying to capture a memory, it really sucks to find out later that the picture was out of focus.
I would still recommend this camera, just pay close attention to the focus.
