Digital camera reviews of Olympus Stylus 790SW 7.1MP Waterproof Digital Camera with Dual Image Stabilized 3x Optical Zoom (Orange)

Digital camera Review: Great camera for backpacking trips
Summary: 4 Stars

Robust camera with great battery life. Only negative is there is a small wait time for the camera to focus before you take pictures, resulting in some blurry images.

Digital camera Review: Great waterproof camera, takes great pictures.
Summary: 5 Stars

I used a Pentax waterproof camera prior to purchasing the Olympus, and was satisfied with that one, but wanted a better quality picture. I purchased the Olympus and got just that! The picture quality is just as good as what I got from my non-waterproof camera, the screen size was great, the camera super easy to use, I couldn't ask for more!

On a side note, I also purchased one of these for my son, and his was defective, malfunctioning as soon as it got in the water. Olympus of course replaced it, I think one of the seals was just bad.

Digital camera Review: Handy Camera for many occasions
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this camera since September 2007. I took it to Egypt, Aruba, Belize. I took about 1400 photos in Egypt -in the water, in the desert, from the bus window, at night, at sunrise and sunset -the only 'bad' photos were due to photographer (ME) error -the shutter lag is very long which is easy to forget. I have taken many pictures both above and below water. It takes great photos! You just have to be aware of the shutter lag which seems longer here, than with my Kodak digital camera but the kodak doesn't go underwater. I have taken pictures in the rain, dropped the camera and still great photos. In Belize, I banged the camera on the ladder after snorkeling, however, I was still able to take great photos using a "point and shoot" method as I was unable to see the image on the LCD screen (handy information should this happen to you) and I had to weigh the price of repair versus a new camera (of course, I would upgrade to the 1030 if I bought a new one) and opted for the repair. Fast, reliable service with good repair of my camera (and they gave me a new battery too), thanks Olympus. Back to taking great photos within a week. LOVE this camera!

Digital camera Review: Happy I moved to Olympus from Canon (YUCK!)
Summary: 5 Stars

This camera is awesome. I used to own a Canon SD600 which was great for what we needed. But just like my 2 Canons before that, it stopped working within a year of purchase. Everyone had told me that Canon was the best but after 3 strikes I was sick of paying the money. And when I sent the Camera back to Canon for repair (under warranty mind you) they told me it would cost $107 to fix because I dropped it. I have never dropped that camera, EVER. Then they had the nerve to offer me the AD900 at a discounted price. This camera has a Titanium shell and got super poor reviews for being fragile, of all things. I'm done with Canon. After a few weeks of research, I settled on this camera.

The Olympus 790SW is awesome. Great pics, awesome built in features. We make calendars right on the camera and send them out as post cards every month. It's water proof and we've taken underwater pics in the pool with it. It's light so it feels cheap but clearly is not. The video is only 25 seconds at high resolution but on the 2nd to highest setting it'll go on forever. We haven't been able to test the image stabilization because the camera just refuses to take a picture out of focus or blurred. I haven;t experienced any of the artifacts at high resolution that others have complained about. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a point and shoot. It truly is the only point and shoot I have ever encountered (more so than the Canon(s) I have had). Don't be scared off by the orange color. There are others available but the orange color looks distinct and cool. The Sound quality is great too and the flash is bright. Still not convinced? Go to your local Best Buy or Circuit City. Even best buy told me that if you don't want a Canon, this is the best Camera to get and the toughest. Plus, you can play with it there too. Again, don't let it's weight throw you off (it's very light). Check it out at any decent electronics store but buy it at Amazon to get the best price.

Hope you get one. You won't regret it.

Digital camera Review: I love this camera...
Summary: 4 Stars

...even though it didn't work in salt water! I purchased it to go to Costa Rica and the second time it was taken in the ocean (only about a foot under) water leaked into the battery department and the battery/memory card/screen got wet. The camera stopped functioning at this point. Besides that, though, it takes great pics. The different settings (cuisine, landscapes, video, etc.) are great and very easy to use and it's size/weight make it easy to take everywhere. I plan on exchanging it for a new one since once Olympus fixes it there's only a 6 month warranty vs. the full year it starts out with.
