I bought this camera in october/2007 and to my surprise, when I took it to the beech at the end of the year, It got soaked with water when I was diving in a depth no deeper than 15 inches. I sent it to dealer to fix it in the warranty, and they told me they wouldn't fix it because of bad use of the equipment. I'm very disapointed with olympus. I purchased this camera for vacations on the water and the ability to take shots in rainy weather. It is indeed waterproof and durable, however the shutter lag makes it very frustrating when photographing children. I have a lot of just missed shots because of the delay.
Once taken, the colors seem very vibrant. Once again it is Ok but not great.

I've bought this camera to use in my trips. The huge problem is: There is no manual settings in this camera. You have to use or the auto shoot (terrible in many situations) or scene mode.
Scene mode works well enough in some scenarios, but it's terrible with low light.
If you're planning to buy a camera to use only in outside locations, it's a good camera (including pools, beach, etc).

I have a destructive toddler, and my parents wanted to buy me a new camera as a gift, and this is the one they got. I dont like the picture quality at all. My canon took way better pictures. Id say about 1 out of every 30 of the pictures I take with this camera are post worthy. Ive tried every possible setting and either the flash is too bright, everything i take a picture of looks like its got about a week to live after watching some tragic video, too dark, or just plain blurry. But my son has definitely tested out the waterproof capabilities of this camera and tested the olympus shatterproof claim and they have held up. I guess its ok for now. I would just like to have better pictures of my son. I plan on getting a Canon rebel after christmas for myself and giving this camera to my son.Digital camera Review: Love the camera

I found this just before leaving for a cruise. It's taken several droppings, it's been in salt water for about 10 hrs total and it's still taking great pictures. The quality is far better than any "water camera" you pick up at wal-mart for $10. I love that it's digital and so you can keep re-taking if needed.
With the right expectations this is a great camera. I wanted something small enough for a pocket, a good size screen on the back, take memory cards, a decent zoom, and easy to use. This camera delivers on all those. It dose have good battery life, nice land or under water pictures, nice color selections, and good buttons.
A few small short comings, it takes special batteries (AAAs would be nice, but not a big deal)and all the options are great but can be a little annoying sorting through.
If you want something simple and are reasonable about what your getting in such a small water tight package then you'll be happy. If your wanting something similar specs without the water proof/shock for the price you can do a lot better.
I would buy this camera again exactly the same if this one dies, it's allowed me great freedom while at sea and also out mudding in the Jeep cause I can just wash it off, no problem if it's dropped either. You can't beat that.
