Very disappointing camera. The lens is right where your finger needs to be to hold the camera well. You cannot shoot before a 2 second delay and having to press OK buttons. Overall poor ergonomic and software design (includes all the other 1 star issues mentioned: poor image quality, poor video quality, etc.). The Pentax is a much better product, I have now used 2 very happily.

Digital camera Review: ruins precious moments!

This camera ruins any social event you would like to capture. I bought this camera hoping it was the solution to every problem I have ever had in my life. The problem with this camera is that it falls out of my pocket seemingly everytime I move my leg...walking, sitting or laying down. You would think olympus would consider this seeing as how much you have to spend on the camera. the camera is waterproof for sure, I sat at an aqua bar for 6 hours with it in my pocket, however when i stood up to get out of the water, the camera fell out of my pocket. I went on a tubing trip recently and at some point the camera fell out of my pocket. I could not capture any moments with friends to remember what happened on the trip. I may never buy an olympus camera again, and am seriously considering writing a mean spirited letter to the company. This camera has let me down multiple times by its only design flaw...falling out of pockets. I read the reviews before purchasing the camera and had an idea of the risk I would be taking by purchasing a camera that could fall out of my pocket, but I put faith in olympus because they are the best camera maker. I will be switching to pentax cameras from now on as they have been second best. DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA IF YOU PLAN ON CARRYING IN YOUR POCKET!Digital camera Review: sturdy, great second camera

I had the 720 SW (was stolen) and now just bought the 790 SW. What with camping, beach, and a 3-yr-old we can be a bit tough on cameras, and this is wonderful to not worry at all about dirt or water or dropping. You can buy better cameras for the price, but none that will take the punishment this one does. And the 790 is an improvement: one of the annoyances I had with the 720 was corrected(they added a dial to quickly get to the camcorder and other useful modes that were previously only accessible by scrolling through menus. Also added is a "guide" mode that easily helps you fix composition problems with one touch). They also made the buttons easier to press by touch, making them either bigger or edges more pronounced. I still find the camera a bit slow, but you won't find better with any other of the (few) waterproof cameras available.
I find the photo colors a bit pale and too cool, but these are easily fixed afterward.
I'm not a fan of point-and-shoots coming without a viewfinder, and this one is no exception. But the 790 has a light that can be turned on to fascilitate framing a pic in the dark, which I haven't tried much yet but must be an improvement.
I plan to buy a DLSR very soon, so I will have that for speed and exceptional photos, and this one for everything else -- worry-free!
Digital camera Review: the best camera EVER

Before getting this camera I had the Stylus 770, until I dropped it and a taxi drove over it. Even after being run over by a car, the only thing structurally wrong with it was a cracked screen, however something was obviously wrong on the inside as it wasn't staying on for more than a few seconds, so I started looking for a new camera. I was going to buy the 770 again, but opted for the newer 790 version. I love this camera. Just like the 770, it takes great pictures in every situation I have used it in, including underwater. Since getting it, 3 of my friends have purchased it as well because they liked mine so much. This is a really sturdy camera with great functions and easy to use. You can definitely drop it, sit on it, dunk it into a glass full of rum and coke, take it into the ocean and cover it in sand and it keeps on taking great photos.
