Digital camera reviews of Olympus?TP-7?Telephone?Recording?Device

Digital camera Review: Amazingly simple and works great
Summary: 5 Stars

I had my doubts, not realizing how simple this little thing works. I attached it to my Sony ICD-UX71 digital recorder, stuck the earpiece in my ear and then made a phone call. I tested it while on the road in my car using my Palm Treo680 cell phone. It picked up the call from both ends remarkably well. I also got all the sounds from the car, but that may be a function of my Sony recorder, I don't know for sure. Either way, the microphone on this device is sensitive and works very well!

The earpiece felt a little awkward at first, but I soon got used to it and it did not cause discomfort. For those wondering how this ingenious little device works, the other side of the earpiece, the part that goes against the phone when you have it to your ear, is a microphone and picks up the sound from your phone receiver.

when listening to the playback of my recordings, I did NOT notice the caller's voice lower than mine, as another reviewer pointed out. However, you can tell it is a phone call and not a face to face discussion. Altough that could be a function of the phone equipment I was using as well (both from my end and the 2 people I called - both of them were talking to me from an iPhone3G).

I mention the recorder make/model and the cell phone make/models as the recording quality may have a lot to do with these factors.

I wanted this as a solution to use for doing phone interviews for a podcast that I work on. It's a great alternative to Skype and so very convenient!

I'd definitely recommend it.

Digital camera Review: Sounds fine, came with extras
Summary: 5 Stars

The mic came with several ear pieces, so fit was fine. It also came with adaptor plugs (not shown in Amazon ad). Recording ability is better than I hoped, and is fine with the monoral digital recording device I use. Not a bad value for the cost.

Digital camera Review: Unbeatable

Olympus TP-7 Telephone Recording Device

I don't know when I've bought any product that does what it says it does so completely, effortlessly and inexpensively. I'm a writer who uses the TP-7 for phone interviews. I thought that something was missing from the package when I opened it to find only a wire with a mini-plug on one end and an earpiece on the other. All you do is plug the plug into your recording device, put the earpiece in one ear and talk on the phone as you regularly would. It picks up BOTH side of the conversation without any problem or loss. But the big surprise came when I plugged it into the mic jack of my laptop and sat down with my guitar and sang and played a song. The TP-7 was on a tray table at least a foot from my mouth and guitar. It picked up everything. You would not believe the guitar sound. Great for working with songwriting ideas. I've had the TP-7 for about a year and am ordering another when I finish this review. I still have the first one but at such a low price (17.11 WITH shipping) I wanted to have a backup in case I lost or damagesd the first one or if it were to be discontinued or if the price should go up. Highly recommended.

Olympus TP-7 Telephone Recording Device

Bought this along with the Olympus Voice Recorder. Local Big Box store didn't even know this existed!! Wanted to record some conversations with my 92-year old aunt & get family history. Knew she wouldn't be able to "figure out" a recorder, but with this I can call her (she lives out-of-state), ask leading questions & be able to record information that will be lost forever when she is gone. Best purchase I've made in a long time!! Much cheaper than other telephone recorder machines, but works as well or better without spending the $$. Would recommend this purchase.

Digital camera Review: A must-have for print reporters
Summary: 5 Stars

As a reporter, I've spent years using complicated and badly functioning recording devices to connect my telephone with digital recorders (and, before that, with tape recorders). Far too often those gadgets didn't work, or I'd accidently plug them in the wrong way, or they'd run out of batteries---you get the idea. Then I fell upon the Olympus TP-7 recording device, and it has honestly changed my (professional) life. It's absurdly simple to use and works flawlessly with my Olympus digital recorder.

Two caveats:
(1) Don't use this device if you need to broadcast your recording (in that case, use a device that plugs directly into your phone jack or telephone itself) because the sound quality on this device is not perfect (for one thing, your own voice come out louder than the voice of the person you are speaking to);
(2) The ear plug isn't terribly comfortable, not if you use it for long periods of time. In my case, I think the lack of comfort is due to the fact that even the smallest included ear piece is too big for my (female) ear.

Despite those caveats, I give this product top marks because there are no better options on the market.
