I'm not sure what others are expecting from such a small inexpensive device, but this recorder works beyond satisfactory!
I love the fact that you can transfer everything to your pc. That aside, I think it picks up sound within reason, and for the most part it's clear. If you have a hard time hearing it, just transfer it to your computer and crank it up, although, it's usually not needed. Just a note though, it does take an enormous amount of time to transfer the files, so if your pressed for time, you may be disappointed. Just make sure you leave yourself plenty of transfer time and you'll be fine.
In my opinion, I think it's very easy to get around the functioning without ever using the manual. I don't believe this is complicated at all.
My advice on the best overall successful recording would be to record it on the HQ setting. This way, it gives you a decent balance of recording time and sound quality.
As for the battery life, it's unbelievable! I've had the same battery on for two weeks and it's fully charged. Of course, I've only used it on average about 1/2 hour - 1 hour a day, but still, I didn't see any decrease in battery life.
Bottom line: This is a well priced, well made, and overall great functioning voice recorder. If you are expecting top notch, then my only recommendation would be to buy one for 3x the price, otherwise, you won't find one much better to justify paying those higher prices.

Previously I recorded classes using a mini tape recorder. It was an acceptable method but it left a lot of room for improvement. I purchased this model because of the download feature. I record and later download both class lectures and music samples for college classes. The ability to download these recordings and play them on a larger system has greatly enhanced studying, especially for music class.
The recorder is easy to use and set up. The instructions allowed me to have it set up to my needs in minutes. The only problems I have had with it is that the play and record buttons have accidentally been turned on when the recorder was in my purse and also when in my backpack. If you don't have to carry this recorder to and fro, it won't be a problem.
The erase feature on the recorder itself asks you if you are sure you want to delete a file. The software for download does have options to delete files that you have downloaded. I believe in that option it asks you if your sure you want to erase files also. I have not had problems erasing these files with either of these methods.
The software was relatively easy to use and the help feature quickly helped me identify problem I was having with set up. After downloading the files, I simply copy the .wav files over to other folders.

This product works great. It has 4 different channels to record - you can use one and the wife can use another. I haven't used the download function to my computer but if you don't need this function, you can get the non pc version quite a bit cheaper. Simple to use.Digital camera Review: Great procuct.

Very easy to operate, and no tapes needed. Small so it can slide right in your pocket.
