I've been using the Olympus WS-300M for a month and I'm really happy with it. Recording meetings with the built-in microphone is already great. I just purchased an optional external lavaliere microphone as well, but that's just because I want the option. You can't go wrong with this digital recorder. I bought this to record our pastor's sermons and put the recordings on our website. I also purchased a lapel microphone to go with it. With the microphone the sound is excellent. It produces wma format files which I easily convert to mp3 with a free program called Wavepad. I record in mono to keep the file size smaller but it does record stereo sound. The battery life of the one AAA has been adequate so far. I actually haven't had to replace it yet but have only recorded maybe 4 hours. It's very easy to use although the buttons are small. Excellent product. Small and light. Great performance. Ideal to record interviews, although also it is very good at the time of recording music lessons and concerts. I am very pleased with this gift. I use this almost daily to record quick thoughts and gasoline prices for GasBuddy. The voice quality and battery life are excellent. I have not used the usb feature as yet.
My only concern is the controls, which are excellent for stationary use, but not while driving. I often have to slide my finger back and forth to find the record or stop buttons. The visual and sound record indicators are subtle and best suited for a quiet environment.
With those observations, I am very happy with this product.
