Digital camera reviews of OmniMount Television Top Shelf (CCH1P)

Digital camera Review: RECOMMENDED
Summary: 5 Stars

I was very happy with my purchasing experience with Amazoon and The Omnimount Television Top Shelf.
Although it took me a little time to figure out how to put it together, I was very happy I could and it fit my need exactly.
I wouldn't hesitate to get another because you can piggy back them and it is an excellent product.

Digital camera Review: Really Nice, Sturdy, Television Top Shelf
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm really impressed with this OmniMount CCH1P Center Channel (or Television Top) Shelf. I've got it on top of my old 27" Sony KV27S25 television with both my TiVo and cable box sitting on it. It's very steady and looks nice as well. As I write this review, there's not much detail on this Amazon site. So, I'll add some:

- This is essentially a large perforated steel trapezoidal plate. At its front, it's about 19" wide. This width tapers smoothly down to about 15" at the rear. From front to back, it's about 15.5" deep.
- There are two sets of leg mounts: one set is about 11" back from the front and the other is about 8" back.
- According to the documentation, it's got a maximum capacity of 30 lbs.
- Depending on the steepness and depth of the back of your television set, you can use one of three sets of mounting legs. It comes with the feet screwed onto the shortest legs (about 3/4" long plus the length of the foot mounting rods). I'm using the middle-sized legs which are about 3" long with another couple of inches in adjustable rods. There are also some 7.5" long extensions that you can add on. So, it looks like you can use this on a television with a 10" or 11" drop over an 8" or 11" depth.
- There are also a couple of 1" rods that can be screwed into the front of the plate to allow you to work over a ridge on the front of your television. This works well on my set: those rods are sitting in a sort-of groove on the front of my set and the back legs are the only other part touching. This allows for more flexibility in leveling the thing.
- There are also four adhesive pads for the feet to make sure the whole thing doesn't slide off the set.

Overall, I'm very impressed with it an give it an Excellent 5 out of 5 star rating. Highly recommended.

Digital camera Review: Sturdy, unobtrusive, versatile
Summary: 5 Stars

We decided to spend a little extra to get a shelf that would blend in with our TV and VCR/DVD combo. Most of the available shelves are black; yet most of the current equipment is silver. This shelf is very thin and strong. I found the shelf easy to install - I did see some things that might confuse someone:

1) The front pins arrive screwed into the short leg pieces for shipping purposes so you'll need to unscrew them so that they can be insalled into the holes on the front of the shelf - they don't actually have anything to do with the pieces into which they are screwed for shipping purposes.

2) In order to assemble, just take a very quick measurement of your particular TV to see how far the rear leg will need to extend, then go to the section of the instructions pertaining to that leg-length, and just choose the extension pieces necessary for the drop involved per the instructions.

3) The legs arrive already screwed into the short extensions - which the instructions call "spacers." I think the term "spacers" is slightly misleading since they are threaded on both ends instead of just being spacers that slide. I like "extensions" much better.

4) The screws hold the legs to the shelf by screwing them into the proper length extension. The little feet have to be unscrewed from the bottom of the short extensions (which is their shipped position) in order to put them on the longer ones.

5) IMPORTANT - If you are using the shortest extension and try to thread the screw through the shelf and then into the short extension when fastening them together, you won't be able to fully fasten the screw until you twist out the little foot on the bottom of the short extension to its more extended position. This is because there isn't enough room in the tube for the screw until the leg is twisted out of the tube on the other end. I can see that someone might think they didn't have the right size screw, but it is!

6) The little nut riding on the foot screw is just a stop nut to keep it in place once you've untwisted the foot from its extension to the proper length adjustment.

This is a quality, machined product; it could be confusing for someone who has not dealt with such things as woodworking jigs, for example. My advice is to take your time and think about the assembly after reading the section of the instructions that pertains to the drop you'll need for the rear leg to make contact with the back of your TV. Actually, assembling this product is good experience for many other applications in life. Think of it as a learning tool and keep the extra pieces taped either to the back of the shelf or somewhere close by in case you buy a different TV and need the other pieces. Highly recommended.

I needed a place for my cable box and came across this shelf
by accident. After reading the reviews it seemed a good
solution and I was not disappointed. The shelf is fairly
easy to assemble, once you make sure you have all the parts
by disassembling it first. It is strong enough to hold the
box and then some, I would recommend it to anyone.
