I love Onkyo products. I had my last receiver for 13 years and it still works fine.
This receiver is great. Very technical. Read the manual and use a highlighter to help with the setup. It seems very complicated but it isn't.
A lot of audio options for 5.1 and 7.1 but some seem to do the same thing.It looks like overkill but is designed to be future proof. The HDMI out doesn't work with my Xbox 360 and I haven't gotten an answer why yet.
The auto speaker calibration does very good job. If your super picky you might want to make a few small adjustments. I made one.
I like having a receiver so I can play video games and listen to TV or music and this receiver makes the adjustment quickly and easily.

I purchased this receiver in May 2008. Very solid, lots of inputs, great sound. Love having one HDMI running to my television mounted over the fireplace. Runs hot but I keep it on top of my cabinet to allow adequate ventilation. Worked well for about 7 months, now the display no longer comes on. I have heard that this is a problem many owners have had--usually happens about a year after purchase. I must say that I was a bit hesitant about ordering this receiver, but I don't regret my purchase one bit. I previously had an Onkyo home theater receiver, but it does not compare to this receiver. It gives my speakers a whole new dimension. I love the various listening modes and I am still playing with the Audessey feature and like what it does and how it brings out hidden and subtle passages. Yes, this unit gets hot, but so did my previous unit. This is a fantastic receiver for the money with high quality amps and features!Digital camera Review: so far so good

if you need to power some big speakers this is the reciever for you. Puts out nice sound.
