Digital camera reviews of Ooma Core VoIP Phone System

Digital camera Review: **Watch Out**Not the Hype
Summary: 2 Stars

A new wrinkle to the landline ... not sure why bother having one at all, but to keep with conventional habits. I got an OOMA system one year ago to replace AT&T. Spending nearly $400 annually for nothing of a phone line; I can't call out of a radius of ten miles without incurring a "long distance" charge. Enough with AT and incompetent corporations, bought an OOMA.

The system was a chore to get started. Users need to have a good grasp of their network and how these systems work (networking). Otherwise, you will get lost in the world of the OOMA telephone support HELL. First to use the OOMA's special functions, so hyped; it has to be paid with a subscription service. An unnecessary function if you own a cell phone ... unless you need to FAX often ... then the FAX function doesn't always work with OOMA. The OOMA generates or requires a some band width from your internet connection, so if you're running something around a 2mbps, then its not worth it. If someone is using the net / browsing, the phone line will be interrupted or vice versus .. any online gaming is not happy with the OOMA system unless you have a higher tier connection.

OOMA's famous customer service center. Utilizing the power of the internet; I get people worlds away who don't care if the system is working or not. They're paid. On the phone, I've gotten: people chewing food, music in background, poor connection, false information (so it ends the calls quickly), and non english speakers. Their common thread, besides being an OOMA employee / representative; they all read from the monitor of the OOMA FAQ page. If the problem is bigger or beyond their experience, a chat line to California is utilized ... which we must wait for someone to respond. Agonizing.

I'll sum up for those trying to make up their minds about a landline. For get about it and just use your cell phone. An internet based phone is ridiculous how ever noble the idea may be .. it just doesn't work.

ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills
Summary: 5 Stars

This system is great. I really can not tell much difference between a normal phone system and the Ooma system. I would recommend anyone who no longer wants a phone bill to by this system.

Digital camera Review: 6+ Months In and I'm Happy.....
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought Ooma in early Spring of this year after researching all available options for freeing myself from the monthly fleecing I was receiving from my former phone company. I went into it knowing that I had to make it to Fall to break even on my investment, which I have now done. I didn't need the Scout since I have a Panasonic multi-handset system, so can't speak as to how well it works. I actually sold it and got a little more of my money back out of the system, so keep that in mind when considering this system. BTW, the Panasonic phone system KX-TG6445T works great with Ooma. Overall, Ooma has been great. I had one minor issue when setting up my account, but called and got straight through to a very friendly and helpful rep, who promptly fixed the issue and even called me back to make sure I was good to go. Call quality is very good, and certainly sufficient and the least. The system has only been down as a result of technical issues with Ooma once since I've owned it. Afterwards, Ooma sent out an email apologizing for the outage (about half a day or so), and explaining that the issue had been fixed and shouldn't happen again. The only consistent complaint I have is that when talking to people on mobile phones, there is a delay that is sometimes significant enough to cause you to talk over one another. I've actually learned to adapt to it, so it's become a non-issue. Although it's not bothersome enough for me personally, I'd guess that this could be improved or eliminated in the settings of Ooma if I were industrious enough to investigate further. Nevertheless, if this is the only issue I have with this unit, I'm still more than satisfied, especially since I no longer get a monthly bill from the phone company! Highly recommend.

Digital camera Review: 641Kbps down and 300Kbps up DSL and works fine
Summary: 5 Stars

make sure this will work for you before getting!!!! most of the complaints i see have to do with either time with porting a number, or complaining that their broadband is too buggy. Do your homework, and then decide:

Go to a number of sites and measure your bandwidth and also measure the jitter, latency and packet loss for your broadband. I have 640Kpbs down / 300Kbps Up on my DSL and this works fine (note that DSL is much higher QUALITY signal than CABLE), mainly because i have 1ms jitter, 0 packet loss, and 40ms latency. if your numbers are close to these, then this will work fine for you too.

The manuals are not that great, but the forums are packed with knowledgeable people and although customer service is foreign, they are quite understandable.

Just do your homework first, and you'll make the right decision.

Digital camera Review: 8 months and love it.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had OOMA for 8 months now and love it. I've had no problems with the quality, the VM is great, customer service (back when I set it up) was so good that I questioned how long they would be in business. It sounds like things may have changed, but they actually had US-based customer support!! Go USA! Porting the phone numbers on DSL was a little challenge, but well worth it.
