The lense hood ordered was to replace the one i lost, or misplaced. amazon has been my favorite online ordering site. they're fast, inexpensive, and courteous when it comes to any questions that need to be asked. also i like the fact that you can purchase new, used or refurbised items. me myself perfer new, but knowing used or refurbished is avalible is nice. also i like the rateing of the stores where u will actually be purchasing the item. The addition of a lens hood can help prevent flares--those circles of light that can accompany images where a strong light source is just outside the fame. These types of lens flares occur when indirect light rays pass through the front lens elements but don't make it all the way through to the image sensor. Opteka's ET-60 Lens Hood is designed for the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 USM, II, II USM, III USM and Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS Lenses. Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
