Digital camera Review: A Great Stocking Stuffer
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this as a Christmas present for my daughter to use with her Rebel XTi. After finding it in her stocking, she wasted no time including herself in family photos around the tree and at Christmas dinner. It worked great, and continues to do so today.

The remote's range is very good and haven't had to change a battery yet. It's also very small and slim, so takes up little room in your camera bag, or pocket. At $12.95 it is a very good deal, and 47th Street Photo got it to me fast. However, I did have to have it expedited which cost me almost as much as the remote. Now that the product is fulfilled by Amazon and eligible for "Prime", it is an even better deal.

If I had any complaints it would be the directions are very poor; however, there is not a lot to operating it, so with a little trial and error you will be up and running in no time.

"Bang for your buck, you can't go wrong with this remote".

Digital camera Review: A Must-Have!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Opteka RC-4 Wireless Remote Control works flawlessly on my Canon 450D/XSi.

Features
--------
- 2 Shutter Release Modes
The shutter release is controlled by the two topmost buttons labeled "S" and "2S". "S" releases the shutter and "2S" releases the shutter after a two second delay. When the camera is set in the BULB mode, press the "S" button to open the shutter. After the desired exposure time has been reached, press the "S" button again to close the shutter. Note: The other three buttons below are non-functional on Canon EOS cameras; they are designed to work with select Sony Cybershot cameras only.

- ~16 Ft Range
The remote lives up to its advertised range of 16 feet. Since the remote is an IR device, it works only with a direct line-of-sight to the IR receiver on the camera. It will therefore not work behind the camera. So, if you're planning on using the remote in lieu of a cable shutter release, you would need to point the remote at the front of the camera to release the shutter (not terribly convenient, but it works quite well nonetheless).

- Compact
The remote feels very lightweight and compact in your hand. I was pleasantly surprised at how small it actually is when I received it! It measures a mere 3-3/8" x 1-1/4" x 1/4". (The product dimensions on the product page are actually the dimensions for the *box* the remote comes in, not the dimensions of the remote control unit itself.)

Setup
-----
You camera needs to be set up before the remote can be used with it: Press the left arrow key (one of the buttons that are arranged in a circular fashion on the back of your camera) until "Self-timer / Remote control" is displayed. Press the SET button. You camera is now ready to receive signals from the remote unit. To set the camera back to "regular" mode, simply press the left button until "Single shooting" is displayed and press the SET button.

---
The Opteka RC-4 Wireless Remote Control works flawlessly. The direct-line-of-sight requirement and the modest remote control range are simply limitations of IR technology. The bottom line: the remote is very reasonably priced and works as advertised. Definitely recommended.

Digital camera Review: A remote is a great accessory. This one works as described.
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this remote so I could start doing self-portraits of my family and to help with very slow shutter speed shots on a tripod (I haven't figured out how to not shake the camera when I press the shutter button without using the timer). I tested it out from various angles and it worked well. I had the same issue as others when standing at an angle; the lens or the grip gets in the way if you are standing too far to one side or the other. However, I feel that this has more to do with the placement of the sensor on the Canon EOS Rebel XSi (or similar cameras) than the quality of the remote. As with other IR (infrared) remotes, it only works when the line of sight is unobstructed. If you cover up the end of your TV remote or stand too far to one side, you will have the same result.

As for the working distance, I pulled out my tape measure to test this one. The remote worked consistently (from straight ahead) up to 25 feet. Beyond 25 feet, it instantly stopped working. It became increasingly more inconsistent at a shorter distance when as I adjusted the angle.

As for the remote design, it's kind of annoying that there are so many buttons that are useless. The top two buttons, "S" and "2S", work well, but none of the other buttons work with the Canon XSi. However, this is simply the hazard of buying a universal remote like this one. I'm assuming these buttons perform their designated functions on another camera model. The instruction sheet that came with the remote was also completely useless, as it didn't even tell you the difference between the "S" and "2S" buttons. I just pointed the remote at the camera and figured it out through trial-and-error. This was simple enough to figure out, but you would think this would be included in the instructions, since ones were provided.

My overall assessment is that this remote does what it's designed to do at a cheaper price than the Canon version. It's constructed well and easily fits in my hand and my bag. I can't say it's a must have, but I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a remote and are okay with a universal-type remote that would seem to perform just as well as the brand name version. I can't really justify giving this 5-stars, since the Canon options are clearly better as they are designed for Canon cameras. However, this one performs as designed and is a good price.

Digital camera Review: As good as the Canon and much, much better price.
Summary: 5 Stars

This remote functions well above my expectations. I was a little leary because of the cheap price. But it works flawlessly. I love it. I have only had it for a couple of weeks and used it maybe 6 times, but so far it is 5 stars.

Digital camera Review: Awesome!
Summary: 5 Stars

This remote is a great price for the item, it works very well and is easy for anyone to use. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a quick remote for a family photo or long exposure photography. I used it with my Canon Rebel T1i with no problems.
