Digital camera reviews of Opteka RC-4 Wireless Remote Control for Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, XTi, XSi, T1i, T2i, T3i, 60D, 7D & 5D Mark II Digital SLR CamerasDigital camera Review: Didn't work properly Summary: 1 Stars
Opteka RC4 I bought for Canon T1i was not working properly from the beginning. Remote didn't operate my Canon T1i every time I press the remote. I thought it may be because of frequency or battery. When I contacted Opteka, they asked me to change the battery (I don't know why they were not trusting the new battery came with their product). Even after changing the battery it didn't work. When I asked for a replacement Opteka send me a RMA# and asked me to ship the product back to Opteka by my own expense(now I had to spend $5.00). I am waiting for the replacement.
Digital camera Review: Diffcult to use for Cannon 5 D mark II Summary: 2 Stars
It was to quirky to get the thing to work, you had to be in just the right place or it wouldn't work, you never knew if it was going to work or not. Instructions were lousy.
Digital camera Review: Dirt cheap & works Summary: 5 Stars
If you want cheap value in an infrared remote, buy this.
It works well and the 2 second delay is great. Make sure you set your camera drive mode to timer mode, otherwise it will not fire it off. Also, if your camera can't focus, your camera will not fire so don't blame this cheap device for that... Certain cameras may interact with this device in a limited fashion. But, they all should allow instant shutter and2 second delay. It works by line of sight infrared: if you can't see your camera, or if you are too far, it will not fire it off.
PS: If I lost it, I would buy another; it is very, very handy.
Digital camera Review: Dissapointed! Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered this remote for my Canon T1i because it was cheap and seemed to have good reviews. It worked for a couple of months and then stopped. I thought it was the battery so I replaced it and still no luck. I contacted the company because it had a one year warranty and they gave me instructions to send it in for a replacement. The customer service was great but unfortunately they failed to test the new one before sending it out and it does not work. It was only $2 to send them the old one for a replacement but I think I will just cut my losses and buy an actaul Canon remote. Unfortunately I had purchased a second one as a gift for my son-in-law before I had problems with mine. I hope it is working for him.
Digital camera Review: Does exactly what I need it to do Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Canon 7D and this remote works fine with it. My main interest in the product is for shooting nighttime landscapes. When I press the shutter button on my camera, it wobbles just a bit before settling down, even though I use a tripod. Obviously this can be an issue with longer exposures, so I figured a remote would solve that problem. This one does the trick at a much lower price than the Canon OEM remote. The manual says the remote has a range of 16 feet. Just for grins I tested it at home from about that distance with a clear line-of-sight and didn't have any trouble getting it to activate the shutter. When I finally get outdoors, I don't expect to be standing more than a few feet from the camera, so I can't imagine having any problems. Note that although there are five buttons on the remote, only two of them do anything for DSLR cameras ("S" for shutter release and "2S" for 2-second delayed shutter). The other three buttons are apparently configured to work with some Powershot point-and-shoot cameras.
