I ordered this as a cheap alternative to an optical switch and this device does not work as advertised. I was hoping to not have to switch a device each time I wanted to play Xbox 360 or PS3. My cables have been tested and work, but one side of this device was broken, so all it really did was act as an extender for an optical cable. Ordering this seems to be a hit or miss. If either of the units you want to connect to this emits a red glow from the optical port even when the unit isn't in use, this WILL NOT work properly as a switch. This does not work for what most people's intentions are. Regardless of what you've read, it does not work as a splitter for two devices in, one device out. I've tried every possible configuration and can only get it to work as nothing more then an extender for a single cable. It doesn't matter if one of your two devices is off, as long as there are two cables present, it will not send the signal. Fortunately it was pretty cheap, but still, cost plus shipping didn't make up for the frustration spent trying to get this to work "As Advertised"Digital camera Review: Complete waste of money

I bought this product so I could use my surround sound receiver that has only one digital input with two different components. I bought it along with 2 cables (I already had one) and it took me forever to figure out why it wouldn't work. There were several problems. First, a DirecTV box constantly puts out a digital audio output signal even when it's off. My T.V. puts out a signal when the power is on, even if I don't want the sound coming from it (eg. I want my audio to come from my DVD player only, which is my surround sound receiver). It would never work together because they are both putting out signals at the same time.
The second problem was that one of the jacks on the side with 2 jacks wouldn't work at all. Even with one cable going in and one coming out, no sound would come over my speakers unless I moved the cable to the other jack. Tried it with other cables and had the same results.
The last thing was the horrible sound quality. I wanted to use digital audio because of the quality of sound. With this product in the loop, the audio would pop and crackle randomly. The pops were extremely loud regardless of the volume setting.
In the end, I bought a digital output selector, which was less than $20, and is what I should have purchased to begin with, not only because I needed it because of my setup requirements (which I learned after the fact), but also because the device is junk.
