There is no physical write protection switch, so when the drive randomly decides to make itself write protected, it's completely useless. You can't format it, add, delete or modify files once it is in this state. Complete garbage.Digital camera Review: Best Flash Drives!

As someone who is contently on the move, it is always important to me to have my file handy. I have never had a problem with this or any PNY brand flash drive. This drive is recognized and installs automatically onto Windows® XP, Windows® 7, or Ubuntu Operating System. My digital life is stored on this device and of course PNY is a premium name. The flash drive is 4GB and that is probably good for now. I will likely need to upgrade within the year but I have kept away from the largest capacity drives and the price per Gig intentionally.
The drive itself works fast and has lighted indicators which identify the activity of the drive while it's working or idle. It has a nice key ring eye and that makes it easy to attach to several carry formats including a key ring. The only thing that the drive lacks is a way of attatching the cover while the unit is inserted into a USB. I suspect that because you must set the cover aside that it has a greater likelyhood of being lost or misplaced. If the cover was somehow retractable or stayed connected to the drive that would be my only suggestion.
You will like this drive. . . it's fast, small, sleek and stylish. Many drives are bulky, look silly and are poorly constructed. The PNY 4GB drive that I purchased from Amazon is "Top of the Line".

This flash drive has a bad habit of automatically going into write-protect mode. There is no way to get it out of this mode. The PNY techs will tell you to return the defective drive for a replacement. I did this and the replacement did the same thing - rendering it useless.
