Digital camera reviews of PNY P-SD2GB-FS Optima 2GB Secure Digital Class 4 Flash Memory Card

Digital camera Review: Bad product!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this SD card from J&R Music last week. I thought I would get the authentic card from PNY so I just used the card with my camera and threw the package away. A couple days later, I took the card out to put all the picture in my PC and realized by that time, the card is only 1GB. I contacted the customer service department and they said they won't deal with me unless I have the original package (which I don't anymore). They adviced me to contact the PNY store. So I did a little research and found that the exact same card is from Toshiba (Model:SD-MO2G) and J&R or whoever their suppliers are just put a PNY label on it to sell it as a PNY. If you don't believe me, just type Toshiba SD-MO2G on Google and the picture is exactly the same except for the little lable. I really don't care if the card is made by Toshiba or PNY as long as it is 2GB, but it isn't. And that would make it really tough to recover your loss from any party (PNY, Toshiba, or J&R). I already contacted my credit card company for a dispute. Little advice for everyone, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PARTICULAR CARD AND J&R STORE and also check the card validity with your computer as soon as you get the item.

Digital camera Review: Polaroid Version is Compatible with Nintendo Wii
Summary: 4 Stars

I picked up the Polaroid variant of this memory card as a doorbuster deal from Circuit City on Black Friday for about the same price you can find it here on Amazon. The model number on it is P-2D2G-RF3/POL. Therefore, I'm sure it's the same card with a Polaroid label. It says made by PNY on it. I bought it for use in the Nintendo Wii and I can verify that it is compatible. I've copied pictures to it from my PC and then viewed them on the Wii.

This is my first experience with Secure Digital as my camera uses CompactFlash. Therefore, I thought I would benchmark it for comparison. Using a cheap, generic USB 2.0 card reader, I copied a file containing 231MB of digital photos in JPEG format from my PC to the SD card. Write Speed is 2.89 MB/sec (231MB/80sec). I then renamed the file and copied it back to the PC. Read speed is 4.62MB/sec (231MB/50sec). For comparison, using the same card reader and the same testing method, my 1GB Sandisk Ultra II CompactFlash card showed a write speed of 1.67 MB/sec and a read speed of 2.78 MB/sec.

I don't really know how to rate this item as I have no experience with any other SecureDigital Memory. However, it works and it's much faster than my CompactFlash. Therefore, I'll give it a 4/5.
