Digital camera reviews of Palm TX HandheldDigital camera Review: 4.5 Summary: 4 Stars
Very nice product. Good value. Bundled applications are great though some are not as easy as they could be to set up. Worth the extra time to get things working - particularly the wireless access and document handling.
Digital camera Review: A Good Solid Performer Summary: 5 Stars
This is my third PDA, the last one being a Sony Clie. Since that model is no longer made I chose to go with the Palm TX, and I'm not sorry I did. It functions as expected, is speedy and does the job reliably. The added WiFi feature is great, especially in areas with free WiFi. Other than that I can say it hasn't crashed (I've had it for several months now without a glitch), and when I had to reset it, there was no problem with data. I purchased a 1GB SD card, which is great for storing photos and music. Also, I'd recommend the keyboard option - whether the one that Palm sells or a Belkin wireless. My friend purchased the Belkin and it has a few more features than the Palm.
In all a good solid performer
Digital camera Review: A Great All-Around PDA Summary: 5 Stars
The Palm TX is, IMHO, the best balance between price and functionality.
This model lacks the bells and whistles of some previous Palm offerings, such as a built in camera or voice recorder. But what it lacks in flash, it more than makes up for in substance when it comes to the nuts and bolts features you need and use everyday. The built-in WIFI is very useful on the road and long overdue in a Palm device in this price range. The ability to check mail or look up an online reference on the go extends the device's useability tremendously in an online-centric world. Add to that a large screen, Documents to Go version 7 in ROM (for handling common Office documents), Bluetooth connectivity for your cellphone plus Pocket Tunes for listening to music, and the TX's utility approaches that of a laptop. The Non-Volatile File System (NVFS) has improved since its inception on the T5, although there are still occasional drawbacks such as slower application starts and sluggish Graffiti performance in certain situations. These, however, are easily overlooked when compared to the peace of mind in having a PDA that is very hard to kill in terms of losing data from a dead battery. Add a memory card and a good backup program (I use BackupMan-2.0), and it's virtually impossible to lose data for any reason.
I may be one of the few people I know who prefers to carry a separate PDA and cellphone, rather then expect one device to do both jobs well. With the TX, I can let my V3-Razr be a small, light comfortable device for voice, while the PDA does the graphical heavy lifting and web access I need away from the office. I have yet to see a convergence device that was both comfortable to use as a phone and practical to use as a laptop replacement, but the phone/TX combo gets it done.
I highly recommend the Palm TX as a balanced solution for the busy professional.
Digital camera Review: A Great Handheld Summary: 5 Stars
Although I previously owned four different handhelds with the Palm OS on them, this is the first actual Palm-made one I've had. I previously had a Handspring visor, which worked well until I dropped it and the screen broke, an early Kyocera combination palm device and cellphone, and two Sony Clies, both of which caused me no end of trouble. The T/X had the features I wanted, and I was hoping that it wouldn't cause me any troubles.
I am so pleased. Everything works great. The Wi-fi connects easily, all my software works well, and it has so much memory (especially with an add-on 1GB SD card, that I feel like I could carry a whole library on it.
I've owned it for nine months now, and it still looks and works like new, even though I use it a lot. I highly recommend this product.
Digital camera Review: A Handyman's Best Friend Summary: 5 Stars
I started my own business late last year. I was keeping my schedule in Outlook on my PC and carrying a pocket callendar and a note pad. I found that I was starting to 'forget' things and after thinking long and hard went with the Palm TX. The best organizational tool I've ever had.
Setup was a snap and now I can talk with a customer while I'm on a job and be able to tell them immediately my availability. It handles Word documents and now I can carry a copy of my estimate and use it as a checklist and can add new items to it. With the built in Wi-Fi I can even research a material price from the local Wi-Fi hot-spot while I drink my coffee. The learning curve is average and it's vey easy to use. I go nowhere without it. It is truely a Handyman's Best Friend.
