Digital camera reviews of Palm TX HandheldDigital camera Review: A great PDA Summary: 5 Stars
Palm should never have discontinued this line of product in favor of the cell phone. This unit has a much larger screen which is easier to see and therefore better for running add-on programs. I use a database program to keep track of shopping lists and collections. While out shopping I always have a complete list of items in a collection and never duplicate anything. I also have a program to keep track of expenditures on my vehicles and monitor mileage. I can also carry many e-books in the chip memory along with a dictionary and games. A converter program allows me to make quick calculations when needed. There are many other programs I've loaded onto the PDA and I use them regularly. By synchronizing with my laptop I can also print contact lists for various projects including a Christmas card list. The biggest problem with this product is that once you get used to it you don't want to give it up.
Digital camera Review: A great PDA at a good price Summary: 4 Stars
I have owned my Palm TX for over a year now, with almost no complaints. The big color screen along with WiFi brings PDAs just one step closer to being as useful as a laptop for browsing the web, typing documents, etc.
The retractable graffiti area is really nice, and for the poor souls who don't take to graffiti naturally, it is very useful to actually be able to see what your symbols look like.
Of course, the WiFi and Bluetooth are very useful. It does take time for pages to load, (especially large web pages with lots of images). This problem can be partially solved by switching to fast mode on the browser (displays text only, no images), but it still can take time to load some pages. Although this can be irritating, the web access is still incredibly useful.
The processor on the Palm TX seems very capable of handling even the most complex Palm applications, (it runs games with complex 3D graphics without any problems). I hardly ever have to reset my device.
I do use my Palm TX to listen to music as well as watch movies, and while the 100 MB plus a 2 GB expansion card is nothing next to many MP3 players, I find that it's more than adequate for my media needs. And the screen knocks the socks off of most if not all MP3 players and ipods.
I have noticed some problems with hot synching. For example, when I hot synch, my device locks up and tapping cancel does nothing for at least thirty seconds. I don't know if this is just something that is to be expected, or something wrong with my device in particular, but it is a problem that is easy to manage.
My only other complaint is that you cannot use a Bluetooth mouse with the Palm TX as you can with many pocket PCs. I use my Palm instead of a laptop quite often, and while the keyboard I have works well, having to use a stylus instead of a mouse can be frustrating.
All in all, the Palm TX is a great device. It is capable and flexible and dependable. And, it comes at a great price, only $299. (You can even find it for $269 on some sites.) Does it have its little quarks? Of course. But then again, what device doesn't? I would definitely recommend the Palm TX to anyone looking for a nice PDA at a great price.
Digital camera Review: A great PDA at a great price Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great bargain. The PDA is loaded with features. My husband loves that it's wi-fi. He uses it for everthing. We've had other PDAs but this one is definitely the best.
Digital camera Review: A great alternative, compared to my old Sharp YO-190 Electronic Organizer Summary: 4 Stars
I needed a calendar/organizer that offered more options and with a larger screen. I also wanted an organizer I could stick in my pocket. I had a paper calendar/daytimer organizer as a backup to my sharp but needed to get rid of it and move beyond my Sharp. I haven't bought into the phone/PDA combos yet, though that will probably have to happen in the near future.
What I like (in the first month): I love the screen, it's very clear and bright and a thousand times better than the screen that was on the Sharp Yo 190 that I was using. The graffiti 2 is a neat option. The wi-fi has worked flawlessly for me. I have had zero problems syncing with my PC (I run XP pro), and it works well with Outlook. I am able to sync over my wireless network at home, virtually eliminating the need to use the USB cable that seems like it could break easily. Documents To Go makes it simple to look at Office files. Battery life seems great.
What I don't like: The Blazer web-browser is pretty lame, but usable. I've had to hard reset the unit several times and it has always been when using the browser. I have discovered that a few web pages have "mobile" versions with less data, which is nice. Viewing PDF's isn't that great. I am unable to fully link the TX to my mobile phone (Verizon razor) via Bluetooth. They recognize each other, but there is no way to send text messages or dial the phone from the PDA. I don't know if it's a driver/Bluetooth version issue or what, but I haven't been able to find the answer.
All in all, I'm very happy with my TX. The phone/Bluetooth issue was a pretty major bummer, but I would say that other than that the TX has exceeded my expectations.
Digital camera Review: A great gadget for grown ups Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this for my husband. In a word he loves it. Is it the lastest in technology? No, but personally we don't need or want an expensive smart phone contract.
This is a gadget for professionals. He needed something to take information in Office formats from the house in his travels. He also needed something to access the web. The editing option if fantastic. Saves the day many times.
We have Vista. Downloaded the patch from Microsoft and the two have had no problems playing nicely. Forget the old reviews about this topic. It is fixed. Just get the patch.
This is a great grown-up toy. Does it play games and music? Yes, but that is not his thrust of interest. It is a great tool.
