Digital camera reviews of Palm TX HandheldDigital camera Review: A poor quality product Summary: 2 Stars
- Loose headphone jack caused one of the speakers to phase in an out at the slightest movement.
- Loose USB cable connection with the Palm TX. Again with small movements, the connectivity would be lost.
- Wi-Fi and browser capabilities are not exactly meaningful as the screen is too small and most web sites are not oriented towards standard screen sizes.
- VersaMail could not sync up emails with my POP account. Emails it displayed once would not get displayed a second time when I accessed VersaMail. The emails were actually there on the POP account when I accessed the account using a web browser from PC. Don't know where the problem was - with the POP account or VersaMail.
- Documentation is bloated and is rather poor.
- I really dislike the concept of very expensive batteries that cannot be changed by the end user. Essentially, when the batteries expire, you are looking at spending such a large amount of money that you might as well go ahead and purchase a new unit.
- On several occasions, the device would just reboot in the middle of doing things, reminding me of good old MS-DOS days when the whole PC would reboot due to some application malfunction. Seems Palm OS is not very stable.
- I am not exactly sure why I would want to use bluetooth. I could use Wi-Fi for wireless connectivity so I couldn't think of much of a reason to use bluetooth.
Make up your own mind what is the problem you are trying to solve and if you need this device to solve those. I think you have lot other cheaper and better options.
Digital camera Review: A real work-horse for me Summary: 5 Stars
The TX saves me lots of time in my work and is also a great past-time unit for me. Having both Wi-Fi and bluetooth capabilities has been areal help.
Digital camera Review: A simple device for a simple job Summary: 5 Stars
All I really need is an appointment calendar and a contact list. And the TX does a pretty good job of that.
When I travel, I use any free WiFi spots I can find to check my eMail. Web surfing is a little painful, but possible. You cannot read Slashdot on Blazer. And, Java is weak.
The photo album works great for my Grandkid pictures. Also, if your digital camera uses SD memory, you can review your shots without using your camera's batteries.
Digital camera Review: A terrible screen fixed! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this palm for my company on April 1st, 2008.
It worked out of the box just fine, but then it started to not record my clicks on the screen. I looked everywhere for help and found that the only thing I could do is return it.
I wasn't looking forward to returning it, so I went to my account page, clicked on a button, and within 2 hours they wrote back saying that a new one was on the way!
I am really impressed with Amazon and how quick they took care of this problem. Just today I mailed back the defective TX.
I will definitely shop here again!
Digital camera Review: A very happy user Summary: 5 Stars
I don't intend to make this a full review, but felt compelled to write having just read several negative comments. Having moved from the Psion/Symbian platform some years ago, this is now my 4th Palm. For me, it's the best so far - most of the PalmOne T5 functionality, plus wifi and SD "High Capacity" support (which I don't think the T5 ships with, but I could be wrong). With Pocket Tunes included plus a 4GB (or larger) SD card purchased, the TX also makes a decent MP3 player. Great functionality for the price.
Contrary to previous reviews, I find the large screen is useful in many applications, especially mapping. However it is true that some applications (a minority I believe) have not been written to use the larger screen.
I've experienced no hardware issues, but I guess people are more likely to write about bad experiences than satisfactory ones.
There are some functions missing that some people will want - including hardware ones such as voice recording and a charge LED indicator. USB drive support has bizarrely been dropped (c.f. the PalmOne T5 which has this) but can at least be added back in, by buying extra software.
The one big thing I would personally welcome is mobile phone functionality. I know the Treo is intended for this, but some of us prefer the true PDA form plus mobile function instead of mobile form plus PDA function. Alas Palm doesn't seem to want to know, but since the TX talks happily with my bluetooth phone this isn't too big a deal.
