Digital camera Review: A Medical Student Must-Have!!

I highly recommend this PDA unit to anyone, especially those thinking about, training as, or even working as a physician. As a 2nd year medical student, I was aware that going into clinical rotations I would benefit from having a PDA. As a result, I conducted some very extensive research into what brand, type, etc. PDA I should purchase. I wanted one that would be quick and easy to use, as well as have a plethora of medical software available. After weeks of research, the Palm TX stood out head and shoulders above all the other PDA systems. As a bonus, the majority of medical schools require or give the Palm TX to their incoming students. You can get pretty much any medical text for the palm, a number of extremely valuable references, and access the hospital systems via the WiFi. Their are also wonderful patient trackers - which, believe me, make life a whole lot easier on the wards! - and their are also a number of free medical programs offered for the palm (ePocrates, Diagnosaurus, etc.).
I can also watch video lectures, review class powerpoint slides, make or review notes typed in Word or Excel format, view PDF versions of textbooks, flip through electronic flash cards or do subject specific questions. All of this while waiting for the bus or to see a professor! Not to mention the personal organization tools that come with the TX. As a future physician, time is precious and always short. Give yourself more time by keeping your schedule and the ability to study with you at all times. Their is nothing more impressive to a professor or attending than someone who can answer all their questions because they reviewed the material right before rounds, the surgical room, etc.
Digital camera Review: A disappointing upgrade

I upgraded to the Palm T/X when the processor died on my Handspring Visor Pro. I had high hopes for a color screen, MP3 player, and other little bells and whistles! From the beginning, I was disappointed. Amazon took more than six weeks to ship the thing (be careful with the "Free Shipping" choice on high-dollar products...you get what you pay for!). It came with a hard case--the clasp on the hard case broke after about a month and was not covered under the warranty. The digitizer (touchscreen) began to die after about two months (and yes, I kept a screen protector on it all the time. The screen is not scratched, it is just unresponsive). And it won't open PDA's or play files from Windows Media Player without purchasing expensive additional software. They also changed Graphiti to Graphiti II, which is just different enough to REALLY throw you off! Long story short: I have owned Treo's, Palm III's, and Palm VIIx's in the past, and this is the most disappointing PDA I have ever purchased.Digital camera Review: A hidden treasure

Outstanding product. If you are considering purchasing the Palm TX, this product is precisely that but accompanied by a metal case for the handheld. For the same price as the Palm TX alone, you get the case free. If you prefer, buy the Palm TX and spend an additional $40 for the case.
This is a well kept secret, and a real buy. For some reason, I could find no mention of this combination package on the Palm website nor amy indication that it is available anywhere except through Amazon. Even on their site I only found it in looking for accessories.
Digital camera Review: All Good but two MAJOR software flaws

So this is a great product. I have used Palm for 10 years and agree with other glowing reviews above. Will spare you the rosy and get to the point. Palm is shipping this with TWO MAJOR software flaws:
1) The Desktop Tasks app will not allow you to create tasks with no due date. It will force a due date of 12/31/2031. This a major known issue that Palm is sitting on for more than a year (I discovered this post-purchase on Palm support forum).
2) The Handheld Tasks app does NOT allow you to "Show only Due items". This can become a big deal is you have tons of tasks set for the future, and have to scroll through all of them to find the important ones.
By charging so much for this product, and shipping with such fundamental flaws, and not doing anything about it for over an year despite knowing about it, PALM IS INSULTING its loyal customers.
If Palm support does not respond these issues actively, I will be returning my product. Afterall, Contacts and Tasks are the Bread and Butter of Palm.
Digital camera Review: Almost perfect.

I really enjoyed the Palm TX, but it had a couple downsides. The battery is not replaceable by me. I also don't like Palm's OS as much as Windows mobile, there's a lot less apps (free ones) for it. So I gave it to my dad and bought the iPAQ 111. I do miss the very nice screen of the TX, though, as well as a few features that it had that I really liked (such as opening right back up to whatever app you were using when shutting it down.) It had one weird thing that happened, if I charged it up regularly from the outlet, then attached it to the computer, it would act like the battery was shot and totally not work unless I charged it up a bit and reset it. Don't know what that was all about. Also, the wi-fi didn't work with our home wi-fi, but I think that it was 811b and we had x or somesuch.
